    Mobile, AL Holiday

I just returned from my 2nd fabulous cruise on the Holiday out of Mobile, AL.  It was awesome.  During this cruise, I heard a rumor that this would be the last year for the Holiday because Carnival has sold this ship.  Is this true?  If so, will another ship be assigned to the Mobile port?  Mobile is so convenient for me, I would hate to hear this port would no longer be available.

    Thanks!

    Jennifer

There are lots of rumors, but no facts.  What did you hear on your latest cruise?  Mobile is very convenient for us also.  I hope they keep a ship in Mobile, whether it be the Holiday or another ship.

I just heard they had sold the Holiday.  If you are looking on the www.carnival.com website, the Holiday is the only one that doesn't have Carnival in front of its name.  During the debarking meeting (this one and the one in 2006), they said they are looking at putting a bigger ship in Mobile.  I was very excited about that on my 2006 cruise, but nothing ever came of it.  Now 2 years later, they are still making the same announcement during the debarkation speach.... Hopefully they are getting a bigger ship if anything.  Otherwise, I was completely happy with the Holiday both times...  When I google it, nothing pulls up...

Re: Mobile, AL Holiday, my feedback

I just returned from a cruise on the Holiday, and the cruise director did inform the passengers that the ship had been sold and will be moving to Europe, and will be replaced in Mobile by another ship.  I'm not surejust when this will happen though.

This experience on the Holiday was my first cruise experience.  It was interesting and fun, although I had a few minor issues.  The thing that I found to be consistently delightful was that the entire staff and crew was extremely pleasant, friendly, and helpful at all times.  The service was excellent.  EXCEPT for one little thing, which is that when my wife and I first arrived at our stateroom we noticed that there was no hot water.  We notified the steward who said that he would notify the maintenance crew.  But it took them a long time to fix this problem (3 days!).  It didn't bother me much but my wife absolutely hated not having hot water for this time.  Aside from this little problem, the stateroom, though it was one of the cheapest ones, was actually pretty comfortable and pleasant.  The bed was very comfortable.  The service at the onboard restaurants was great.  The buffet dining on the Lido Deck was a bit problematic at times, due to the fact that it often got very crowded and hectic there at peak times and it could be difficult to make one's way through the crowd and to find a place to sit.  The pool and poolside area are a lot of fun.  The entertainment at the onboard nightclubs was not so good.  They definitely need to hire some better musicians to play at the nightclubs.  My wife and I were frustrated that there was not any good music there for us to dance to.  But the big productions at the Americana Lounge were very well-done, with superb dancers and musicians.  There was a photographer on board named Yuliya who is excellent.  Best portrait photographer ever!  There was a guy on the ship who gave some art talks (can't remember his name now) that were very interesting.  Had a nice time in Cozumel snorkeling.  That's about all...

i have heard  that the holiday was sold to the same cruise line the celebration was sold to and that the Carnival Sensation was being moved to mobile after its January 2009 evolutions of fun drydock.

Carnival will be making an announcement on Monday the 18th in Mobile on board the Fantasy regarding the port of Mobile and on Tuesday in NOLA regarding the port there.  Look for some changes at both ports.

    Re: Mobile, AL Holiday

yes the holiday will be operating out of Mobile until November 2nd, 2009. After this the holiday will be transfered to ibuceroucus cruises and will sail as Grand Holiday. The fantasy takes over right away, there will be no gap in between like there was in Jacksonville.

Your right, the Fantasy after dry dock will be in Mobile Alabama. The sensation will not be there. Sorry. But the Fantasy and Sensation are pretty much the same.

I too am hooked on the HOLIDAY!, going on 3rd cruise on her Dec. 11. Yes, she will be retired from US sailings, and will be going overseas for a new company formed by Carnival. The FANTASY wil be taking her place in Mobile starting in NOV. 2009.

    Re: Mobile, AL Holiday

Can you give me some idea of the size of the staterooms on the Holiday ?  If you had a choice in taking two children with you, would you opt for two pull down uppers OR for a roll-a-way to be put in the room at night?  If a roll-a-way, would there be room to move around?
