When you get off the ship, you have to go through a store to go to wherever you want to go, there are some small stores outside that store. We rode on a road train vehicle  to the Governor's Beach and Snorkl, we were there for about 3hrs laying in the sun and snorkling, the water is very clear and calm, there is a shower and bathroom next to it. There is a place were you can ride horses on the beach as well. We went to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville and ate lunch there. We are going back this coming April

When you were there last did you here anyone talk about the stingray and snorkl trip, We are considering this one, also it looks like you could get off the boat and lay on the beach without spending money on a shore excursion, is this the case. My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon on the triumph in 02 and had a great time, Hope to see you on the ship.

We were going to take the stingray and snorkel trip but they told us the boat that took you there had broke down, so we settled snorkling at Governors beach. As son as you get off the boat you can lay on the beach and save lots of money, We were one of the last ones to get off the boat and that area was really crowded. Hope to see you all also.

You are going to love Grand Turk! This is the capitol of the Turk and Caicos Islands, which are 40 islands to the east of the Bahamas.

When you arrive, you'll see a Cruise Center with some shopping and also a Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. There's some historical sites (legend has it that Columbus landed near Grand Turk), which you can see by taking the Guana bus, which takes you to the Lighthouse and to the old government prison. There is a nice museum which has a space gallery (John Glen and the Friendship 7 spacecraft splashed down near the islands in 1962).

Do you have to take a taxi or bus to get to the beaches or more shopping area?

They have private taxis mostly mini-vans. We paid fifty dollars to be taken about 5 miles. Do not take the vans!! Take the train type shuttle that comes to the visitors center. FYI the driver was drinking a beer when she picked us up. Not Cool. Downtown was an experience. We like to get alittle taste of the culture where ever we go, so we walked around for a few hours. Nice to take it all in- then we went to the beach. The stingray-snokel adventure was the best. The rays are used to feeding time and started following the boat when we got close. We had a conch eating demo. I got to keep the shell (not a good smell in our small cabin!!) We had an awesome experience there.

Did you happen to see the price for riding the horses on the beach.  We at first thought we would do the train to the beach  Then I heard about Marguritaville and the beach at the pier.  then I thought about shopping.  Iheard its a great place to buy designer bags.  Now I'm confused about which to do.  Any suggestions?

This is place you dont have to spend money on an excursion. Great beach right off the pier. We went to govenors beach and found out it really the same stretch of beach that was at the pier. less crowded but i wouldnt spend the money again. Marguritaville and shopping as soon as you get off the pier. Great place beautiful water. you will have a great time.

    Re: GRAND TURK

Hi Am planning a cruise in Feb on Destiny. I was wondering what excursions are recommended at the Grand Cayman. I've been reading posts saying that you don't need to spend the money as the beach is right there.  if anyone has any other ideas or recommendations! We really are intersted in doing some snorkling and I was checking out the ship wreck and reef tour? Anyone have any recommendations about snorkling trips? Can we just do that off the beach or do you have to go out a ways to experience the reef.  I'm going with some single friends and we are all school professionals so don't really want to do too many kid activies (we love em..but want to forget about kids for a bit!). I'm not too shore about the stingray park...as I am not totally convinced it the best thing to "feed" fish and disrupt their natural habits, etc. Any ideas/recommendations would be welcome!

    thanks. Angie

I would suggest getting a day long bus pass. They are airconditioned, and comfortable.
