    Bahama Info

going to Nassau and Freeport aboard the Sensation in march...basically all i want to do is be a beach bum all day and maybe hop back on the ship to eat every now and then... is this possible are there near by free public beach access close to these ports or do you have to go to a private beach club?

We spent the biggest part of the day at the British Colonial Hilton.  It is walking distance from the ship.  It cost us $5. in 2005, so you might want to check what it costs now.  That was for the use of their lovely beach and chairs.  We spent 4 or 5 hours just enjoying the beach.  Other than that I'm not sure what is close by. I believe any public beaches are on paradise island.

You better plan an excursion while in Freeport - there's no beach nearby.  The dock is in an industrial part of town and all the touristy stuff (with the exception of a few souvenir stands) is a drive away.  Nassau, on the other hand, has beaches within walking distance from the docks.

If you want to go to Breezes, don't book on the cruise. Breezes is $101 a person on the cruise, but $60 if you go to the resort. $60 will get you unlimited drinks, food, and a bunch of fun things to do. You may want to check in on this. I will be there in about 2 weeks, i'll let you know how it goes!

I have been told that you can walk to the British Hilton from the dock.  It is a five or ten minute walk.

Hey, thanks for that info! I wanted to do Breezes, and your info helps lots. I'm looking into it. How did you do it? Did you just go to the resort and ask to use facilities or did you do something in advance? Thanks!

There's a public beach the other side of the British Colonial Hilton, but you have to watch your "stuff" and you may have locals "harassing you. Better to spend the $15 or $20 to use the BCH Beach and Facilities. The BCH is quiet and not a party spot, though.
