    First timer!

Hey everyone! I am going on my first cruise September 17, 2007 for my one year anniversary. I am one of those people that have to have lists for packing and be totally organized. So anywho... does anyone have any tips oh what to make sure that I def. pack? Also, since it is going to be by one year anniversary I was wondering if they do anything for people wh oare celebrating things like that? Oh yea I would have just turned 21 so does anyone have any good drinks they would like to recommend? I am a little new to the whole mixed drink stuf, so yea. Well any information on the cruises would be very helpful!! :) Thanks!

    Re: First timer!

HI, I am 40, so what I think is important, you might not. Anyway, we just got back yesterday and I packed toooooo much, most of which were dress clothes. Forget dressing up for dinner. SOme do some don't. We did the first night and the Captains dinner. Take advantage of the dinning room meals they are great! Breakfast. lunch, dinner. When you get on the ship, go up to the Lido deck they have a buffet lunch (not the greatest but it is quick food) stick with the sandwich and salad bar towards the back. Also, buy a pop card and souvenir cup (33$ plus 5 for the cup) if you drink pop, otherwise you pay for pops plus 15% gratuity for each drink. If I were young again, I might consider buying a bottle of alcohol on the ship bringing down a glass of vodka or whatever and mixing it with the free juices and lemonades. YOu could go broke really fast if you are a drinker. The daily drink specials are all pretty good. When you actually set sail, go to the very top deck, it is really cool watching the ship barely make it under the bridge. Regarding tanning, this is a whole other topic. You have to get a chair EARLY if you want a good spot. The main pool where all the contests happen is fun, but space is limited and so is the sun, the ship blocks the sun I think the best place is one deck up from the pool around the fence and then you can look down on the "fun" and get the sun the whole day. If you are not into contests and such and don't really care about the pool stuf (water is freezing and salt water, unless really drunk, adults don't even really go in, plus they are REALLY small. I thought the one at the front of the boat was a hot tub but it was actually a pool) go to the top deck where the bb court is and set up there or right below.  I personally packed our stuff on my hangers and then just hung it right up when we got there. I also brought a can of lysol and sprayed the showers (kind of moldy) but you are young and I am just a psycho clean freak with kids. I also brought a power strip because there is only one outlet in the room. Blow dryer, curling iron, video chargers etc. You do not need cash (for the boat anyway) just a credit card that they swipe and you get this sign and sail card that takes the place of your cc. Don't loose it! The Pearl island treasure hunt snorkeling WAS NOT worth it, just do the pearl island beach thing and lay on the beach and hunt for your own shells, we found more on our own than the tour.  Regarding your question about anniversary, sure they do stuff for anniversaries, they will even decorate your room but YOU PAY! You can preorder on line and they will have it decorated. You might be able to tell your head waiter and he could stick a candle on your dessert but thats about it! Hint to a friend or your mom and they could arrange to have flowers or the room decorated when you get there. Hope this helps!

    Hi Tammi!

Congrats on your anniversary. A cruise is a great way to celebrate!  Last year my boyfriend went on the Imagination  (We are currently trying to pick a date for a Celebration Cruise). I had been on two previous cruises, but this was his first one.  Let me tell you that it is EASY to overpack.  I got him several nice leisure outfits to wear, and it was so sunny and hot that he  was in his bathing suit and t-shirt most of the time.  For our next cruise, I plan on just packing some t-shirts and shorts for both of us to hang out on deck in.  I personally like to eat dinner in the formal dining room so i had a change of clothes for the evening.  If that's not your thing then your shorts and T's are fine all day.  As far as the drinks.... we are both in our 30's.  I would say try the drink special of the day.  I always did. Some days the drink is better than others, but you get a neat souvenir cup along with them.  They also come with  little umbrellas.  The first night the drinks seem to be pretty strong so be careful if you don't drink much. You don't want to get too drunk and not remember anything :-).

Hi Crafty - You say don't miss going UNDER THE BRIDGE.  What BRIDGE is it?  Is this for ships sailing out of FT LAUDERDALE (PORT EVERGLADES)? or out of another port? Thanks much!  Sounds like fun to see... I'm sailing on THE LIBERTY (3/15) and would like to see this, if it applies to my cruise...THANKS!

HMM- hopefully this person will respond.  The only thing I can think of is the Sunshine Skyway bridge sailing out of Tampa.  When you go under the bridge, the ship just BARELY clears and it's cool to see if you're up on the top deck.

Since this is the Celebration thread, it's most likely the bridge  on the St John's River in Jacksonville. DW and I took one of the Celebration's last cruises in March of this year. The smokestack looked like it was scraping paint. LOL
