If you are, did you save a cold one for me?
Yes, it's me. Although after last night's BBQ, there are fewer Pacificos in the fridge! But I managed to save you one.
Issues with my husband's wheelchair and renting suitable transport on the other end make flying too problematic for us unless there is just no other way. I'm the driver and don't mind it at all. Usually there's lots of things to do along the way - and my Mum still lives in Florida where we moved here from so we make that trip a lot. We both retired early so we have plenty of time. But cruising is a wonderful way for us BOTH to relax - no driving for me and lots of those Monkeyheads for both of us

Remember that old commercial about walking a mile for a certain brand of cigarette? (Camels, maybe?).

Carnival needs to start a new campaign - "I'd drive 4 days for the Pride!"

Just 2 weeks now until the Paradise cruise with my Mum...her first time and we really hope she likes it. Better to try her out on a short one the first time, we thought AND there should be lot of Mothers on that cruise so hopefully she'll find a few folks to talk to and a Yankee game on TV.

Suzie in Las Vegas...

Re: Is this board for a bunch of snobs?

Suzie :

Just had to jump in on this. LOVED the Pride, too. As for HAL, where does everyone go after 9:30 when the piano bar closes? Everyone on board was 90 and complaining constantly about the prices, the food, the prices, the service, the prices, the art, the prices. AAARGH! The only live music I could find was the chamber music with the cognac cart - and the whole damn place closed down at about 11. Actually, on one formal night did see some people with no hair dancing to Eddie Albert. IMHO, if you have no hair and want to dance, it better be to Judas Priest.

Tried to play some blackjack - table ruined by an idiot who didn't know how to play. And if you don't know when to take a hit, use a cheater card. You CAN get them on-line, ya know. The guy next to me took a hit on 19 AND with the dealer showing a 6. AAARGH!

At 53, I was pining for some good live music and a decent show.Sure wish the Pride was back in Long Beach! Caught myelf yesterday caculating gas mileage to Baltimore...

And I'm a Voltaren gal myself. It works even better accompanied by a dirty vodka martini! Extra olives AND onions, please.

The only good thing about the casinos on HAL are that there is no one else awake by 10:00 P.M., so you can have your choice of all the slots. At least until they shut down at 1:00 A.M. because everyone else is sleeping.

By 10:00 P.M. a "Dam" ship is like a private yacht, if you can find something to do.

Flying to Baltimore from Vegas is cheaper than driving.

Re: Is this board for a bunch of snobs?

Just had to jump in on this.
I have cruised on the Pride before, and she is indeed beautiful. About the age factor, suffice to say I just received my first Social Security Retirement Check, and I have arthritis in my knees. If it wasn't for Celebrex, I'd probably be cruising on some "Dam" ship right now. Our cruise on the Statendam to Alaska last summer was great, until they closed the casino at 1:00 A.M. and kicked me out because all the older folks were sleeping already and I was the only guest left in the casino. I was 61 yo at the time and felt like a KG kid stuck inside a high school. I think I'll be fine on CCL until 75-80 though, as long as the Celebrex holds out.

Amen rufaeldawg! However, someday around 2025, I'm sure I'll opt for the slower moving activities, elegance, beauty, and great service onboard Carnival's corporate cousin, Holland America Lines. By then I won't have enough brain cells remaining to do well in all the trivia games, scattergories, etc, that are part of the Fun Ship experience. For the time being, HAL is just too slow of a cruise lifestyle for me, although I think they are the second best choice for cruising. We will still use HAL when the itinerary fits Diane's work schedule better than the Spirit's does. Other than Alaska or Hawaii, we'll stick to strictly Carnival for another 15 years.

Re: Is this board for a bunch of snobs?

Actually, I think we are a bunch of snobs.... Carnival snobs - because no other cruise line is as good!!!

Re: Is this board for a bunch of snobs?

newbie:

Only 15 days until a quickie 5-day on the Paradise - I wonder if Monkeyheads impart immunity to the swine flu!

Nothing beats sitting on a bar stool in Mazatlan with a couple of newfound friends guzzling Pacificos and discussing/comparing the divine attributes of the dozens (maybe hundreds) of ladies/goddesses walking by on a beautiful sunny day. If you were there in November Suzie, you were probably the subject of our intellectual conversation/adoration for 5 minutes or so. Then another goddess walked by, and she became the subject of our fantasies for the next 5-6 minutes. One Pacifico usually lasts for about 10 minutes or two goddess sightings! Barkeep, another round please! And God, another dozen or so beauties, if you don't mind!

Mazatlan, sunny day, 9-10 Pacificos (after all, they're small), an endless parade of goddesses, sounds sort of like what Heaven must be like!

Re: Is this board for a bunch of snobs?

Well...DUH!
No, not within walking distance to the Malecon but it's not far - a cheap cab ride from the port. Not sure where the zipline lets you off but the driver will know approximately how much the fare is to the ship. PV is not a large city so it's fairly easy to do the entire Malecon area in a few hours, just hitting the highlights, walking around and seeing all the public art (the Mexican Riviera is known for it). Lots of open air bars - be careful when ordering a drink at these establishments not to get a garnish. Many of the open bars will have liquor and individually bottled mixers. Beer is good when you use a paper or plastic cup - I know, I know but it's better than drinking from a glass with someone's lipstick on it (Uugh!).Oh, and don't order the oysters on the half shell served at the outdoor bars.Hope you have a great time.

Haven't you ever heard of drinking beer straight out of the bottle? A Pacifico fits just perfectly in one's hand.

Re: Is this board for a bunch of snobs?

So is everything within walking distance of the ship/port? When we are dropped back after the ziplining can we just walk around?
