I am looking for the nearest beach or resort beach from the dock where the cruise ships are. And if there are any resorts near by how much for day passes?? and for public beaches how far or long of a walk/drive to them?

Port Lucaya beach to marketplace?

While the port looked like nothing, since it was made to functional not pretty my husband and I found lots to do in Freeport. If you like nice beaches, diving, snorkeling, parasailing, and shopping then you'd be happy. We took a long taxi ride to the botanical gardens and loved it since I am a gardening enthusiast. I've been lurking the Freeport threads for awhile now assuming that this place is just a parking spot for Carnival - not too mention my mother whose been on various cruises has visited Freeport with a "not to mention" statement: "I'm sorry to tell you hon, but it's pretty boring there, nothing really to do" ----- even though I'm hearing and reading all of the negative feedback, we all have NO CHOICE but to be prepared to park in Freeport whether we go off the ship or not...so with that, I'm going into the mindset of "making the best of it" before I judge anything...I've always been that kind of person...with that stated, I viewed the Carnival Excursion section of the website and saw that they have about 4 new excursions...I'll make the best of it by doing SOMETHING out there..

Destination opinions needed

We love to cruise and want to try a differant itinerary. We will be on our third Cozumel and Progreso cruise come Dec.09. Looking at summer 2010 while prices are great. Either Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Cozumel OR Belize,Isla Roatan and Cozumel. Both ports are within driving and either of the ships will be great we know. A side note - I like ports for "life experiences" I don't care about the shopping if it's there great if not o well. Some people don't like Progreso, we've been twice as of now and have enjoyed it for what it is. Not one of my friends can say they've been up close and personal with Mayan Riuns 500yrs.BC. Do you know what I mean now about "life experiences?" We love Cozumel also,I hate it for my friends and family who I know will never get to see such beauty. It truely makes me sad, pictures do no justice of snorkling in" windex! I think you fellow cruiser know what i'm looking for so please, tell away!!! Thank you for your time and opinions in advance.

Suggestions for Older Couple

Has anyone ever heard of this private company before? My Aunt owns a time share in freeport and said that this is the best thing she has ever done. The company picks you up where you tell him you pick what you want to do and he brings you back. Was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this company. I am going to email him and see what he says. It is 395 for 4 hours or 595 for 7 1/2 hours. I think this would be realy cool if I could find another couple to go with for the four hours.

I read a lot af bad reviews about Freeport. We (me, my husband and 2 year old daughter) sailing on Carnival Pride July 3 and we will have a stop there. Now I am thinking what will be our best plan for that day. Do you think taking a taxi to a local beach will be a good idea? What beach to go? (preferably no waves), How much will be a taxi?

I like to look at Trip Advisor videos or youtube videos in regards to our destinations and I found these for Freeport...has anyone ever went to Gold Rock Beach from the port? I'm considering it....but I wonder if one or any of the excursions go there...didn't see it in any of the details....

If you're looking for somewhere to drink and relax in Freeport then Billy Joe's is for you. Just got back from the Bahamas and loved this place. We didn't want to do a shore excursion and just wanted to relax. Went into Port Lucaya $10 round trip per person. You go past the Isle of Capri Casino and the beach is right in front of you. Make a right when you hit the beach and its a few hundred yards up. Its right beside a water sports rental. It's a small brown shack with a covered patio and picnic tables. They have live conch, ice cold Kalik and reggae music. Our cab driver told us about the place and every local we asked also said the best place to go. I live in Florida and the Billy Joe's conch blew everything I’ve ever had out of the water. My girlfriend is from the Caribbean and she agrees, best conch she's ever had. Happy Drinking!

We should boycott Freeport and go the Half Moon Cay instead

For all the cruises I have been on, several of them going to the Bahamas, it seems that almost all stop in Freeport. I have yet to figure this out as this is not the most beautiful or exciting island. I quite enjoy just being able to walk off the ship and just go where I want. You can't so that here, so there for immediately you are forced to spend money to go anywhere, unless you just go to the small market right at the dock.

Half Moon Cay is such a marvelous island, yet they only offer this stop on limited cruises. Thinking we should boycott Freeport and demand more Half Moon Cay. After all, they make all of the money we spend on that island so it should be a win for all of us. Any one else agree?

I tell ya, my cruise is not until September (Bahama) and even though I've been to Mexico numerous times due to the fact I live in Los Angeles, I am SERIOUSLY thinking of doing a 3 day shot there and back on Carnival with my sister to get me over! LOL

However, I wanted to know has ANYONE been on one of the party boat excursions? How is it? Is it 21 and over? I love party boats! Even though the other ones I've been on were at a resort, I wanted to know how Carnival Party boats are...

Hi there..after reading quite a few of the posts about Freeport..it doesnt sound like the most pleasant port to visit on a cruise. Which Im guessing is probably why the ship is only in port there for a short time. So here is my dilemma..my Fiance and I are taking a cruise on the Pride that will be stopping there as the last port. Our plan has been to get married while at one of the ports. With the wedding license restrictions..you need to be in Bahamas 24 hours to get a marriage license. With that being said..our only option is in Freeport then. Sooo..can anyone recommend what may be the nicest beaches in Freeport..I know the choices may be slim..but hopefully there is at least one that is scenic enough to make our special day memorable. Any help or info anyone can share would be greatly appreciated!!

Dolphin Encounter in Freeport

The Dolphin Encounter is amazing. I would recommend it for young and old alike. I took a 70 year old lady who is mentally challenged. Everyone there was fantastic. They went out of their way to make it nice for all!!!!!!!!!! We had 2 very good trainers, but if you are lucky enough to get Omar, he is phenomenal!!!! He is not only informative but makes the excursion very entertaining. Definitely a MUST and worth every penny!!!!!

Let me just start by saying that this had nothing to do with carnival. This place is like being in the middle of nowhere. Nothing really to do or see unless you take a taxi into town and go to the beach that was fun . I don't really know why the ships even stop on this island. My advice would be to take your shore excurision on this island or you will be board out of your mind..
