Hello! My mother and I are cruising out of Civitavecchia on Rome October 15. We will be staying at the Rodrigo de Vivar Resorts & Country (close to the airport) the night of the 14th. We will also be staying in Rome for several days after the cruise. If anyone is interested in sharing a private car from Rodirgo to the port or from the port to Rome, please let me know. Transportation to Port of Civitavecchia (Rome, Italy)

For people penny pinching, does anyone have ideas, or have gone thru transfers either from airport or hotels to the port in Italy. Has anyone used train service, and is that close to the port.. I would just like to know alternatives.. so that my finely priced cruise doesn't end up breaking the bank here! Thanx for anyones suggestion out there! I soo appreciate it, and would love some suggestions... Would like to stay a couple days in Rome before the cruise...

When we arrived in the seaport of Civitavecchia the beauty was overwhelming and we could not wait to get out and about. As with many of us, including our fellow passengers determining a clean, reliable and most of all safe car service was challenging. There are so many available it's difficult to pick one and we did not want to waste any precious time trying to pick a a service, so we took a recommendation from a couple who was travelling with us who had been to Civitavecchia before and used this limo.car service and was very pleased. So that's all we needed and they were right...very clean cars and our driver was very pleasant. They helped us make the most of our time at this port of call and we are forever grateful. Civitavecchia Bus Shuttle

I have many posts at many websites about Civitavecchia. By none of the posts have answered a basic question. Where specifically does one meet the Carnival cruise ship shuttle to the ship and/or dock terminal check-in location? In this case, I read you can board anytime after 12:30-1 pm and the ship leaves that evening at 7 pm.

I am taking the October 25th Carnival Freedom Eastern med cruise. I plan on taking the train from the airport to rome (9 euro; Leonardo De Vinci non-spot train to Rome and then from the Rome Central terminal out to Civitacchia 12 euro).

From what I have read on some posts, at different sites, one can take a taxi and/or walk ...I am trying to find out about the shuttle which from what I have read leaves in front of some fort ,,,near the entrance to the commercial and various ship dock area

Debarkment in Civitavecchia

There is a group of us (6 ladies) cruising on the Carnival Freedom in October. We are staying an extra day in Rome and trying to make arrangements for transportation from the pier to our hotel in Rome. We are looking at reserving a limo service but need to provide them a pick-up time. Since we don't know when we'll be able to leave the ship, we're reluctant to reserve the limo and take the chance we won't meet the pick-up time. If we're more than 30 minutes late, the limo service will charge our credit card and leave. Is it safe to say we will be off the ship by 9:00am if we have a limo pick-up time of 9:30am? Does Carnival allow passengers the option of carrying their bags off the ship which allows them to leave the ship at anytime? Any other suggestions?

I KNOW A DRIVER IS NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE TOUR INFO BUT WILL DRIVE YOU TO ALL THE SITES AND PURCHASE ENTRANCE TICKETS AHEAD OF TIME. HAS ANY ONE HAD ANY GOOD LUCK OR BACK WITH ANYONE PARTICULAR. I am sorry but an onboard credit does nothing for me. It certainly does not put monies in my pocket for a $300.00 plus bag, I have to replace. This also does not address the other items that were damaged in this bag. I must spend monies for a cruise before I receive any monetary consideration. Yes, my trip insurance did cover my entire loss. Again I state, why should an insurance company have to pay for damage that was the fault of Carnival Cruise Lines. If this type of damage continues, everyone is aware of what will happen to luggage coverage on travel insurance. It is now very limited in dollar amount in relationship to what might be in a bag.

I have already cancelled a cruise on Carnival. I already know they do not care. I am hopeful that all of this will help future travelers.

The following is what I call service. I sent the claim to my trip insuracne company April 23rd.and received a check dated May 3, 2007 for the full damage less the $50.00 the Carnival paid. They paid $324.80. I also got a letter from the President of the insurance company. This is what I call fabulous customer service.

My last letter to Carnival, that I posted, was sent registered mail to each of the following: Mr. Micky Arison, Mr. Robert Dickinson and Ms. Lorraine Giraud. I have never had a response from any of the above.

I would highly recommend using a travel insurance, I highly suggest selecting your own policy from an individual company other than what the cruise line suggests. You can see what you are getting in advance, and you can choose a policy that fits your personal needs. Another party, who traveled with our group of eight, is still awaiting reimbursement for a medical expense cliam that was purchased though the curise lines.

IF AN WHEN I HEAR FROM CARNIVAL CONCERNING MY LUGGAGE PROBLEM I WILL LET YOU KNOW. PLEASE DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH.

Returned March 26th from a cruise on the Freedom. Nice ship and great cruisse, but baggage a problem. Had a Hartmann tote delivered to our cabin door completely destroyed. Yes, it was Carnival! We had been in Rome 2 days prior to the Cruise and the bag had been repacked that morning. It was perfect until handed off to Carnival. Yes, I had travel insurance, but I do not know why someone else should pay for something that Carnival damaged. Here is my latest response:

RE: Carnival Freedom, 3/14/07,

I am in receipt of your check #000103305 in the amount of $50.00 and your correspondence dated April 13, 2007. I thank your for your consideration which I feel is very minimal on the part of your firm. I understand what your maximum liability is under the passenger contract. Having been in a service industry all of my working life, I do not know of a company, who when blatantly is at fault, does not step up to the plate and accept responsibility. I now fully understand that Carnival Cruise Lines has no real concern for it’s customers or for customer satisfaction, which I will definitely keep in mind when selecting my next cruise. Most corporations who really care about customer satisfaction go the extra mile to satisfy their customers.

Having traveled extensively domestically and internationally for better than forty years. I have never had a piece of luggage and its contents damaged this severely. I have been traveling with Hartmann Luggage since the 70’s and Carnival Cruise Lines has been the only carrier to have ever damaged any of my Hartmann bags. Yes, I have had stitching go and pieces get soiled and I have updated to newer styles, but again, no one has ever damaged any of my Hartmann let along damaged it severely enough to deem it unusable. I purchase and use Hartmann luggage because of it ability to withstand the severe handling of common carriers. If you had reviewed my original correspondence, you would have noted, that on the Glory on August 26, 2006, Carnival split both wheels on a Hartmann 24” roller. No, it could not have been damaged by anyone else but Carnival, in as much as I live fifteen minutes from Port Canaveral and transported myself to the port. I paid the $25.00 and replaced the wheels myself. For this inconvenience, Carnival gave me four drink coupons.

As to your offer of an onboard credit, again thank you, however I consider myself to be a savvy traveler and I am aware that this is something that Carnival Cruise Lines frequently offers passengers. Mr. Xx and myself received this credit on the Freedom thus I consider this offer of an onboard credit as another gesture of your lack of concern and consideration.

It is very evident from your response that your corporation is in business for the masses and does not care of about the stress and hardships of individual passengers. It seems that Carnival has not yet realized that most successful businesses keep satisfaction a major priority in their management’s philosophy and actions. A satisfied customer is the best form of advertising that a firm can get and a dissatisfied customer is usually very damaging. I have seen others carriers in the past with your attitude, and I have also seen many throughout the years go by the wayside. Hopefully, your company will address and make the necessary changes so problems like this will not occur in the future.
