Did you decide to book for the 11/9 cruise? My family will be on that one and I have a son who is 10. This is our 3rd cruise, but first time cruising with Carnival.

Hey Jeff,

THanks for the advice. I was a bit concerned because I had bought a couple of formal gowns for the two formal nights, for both myself and my two daughters and was begining to worry that I spent all that money and shouldn't have. My daughters are very much looking forwards to formal nights as am I, my hubby on the other hand, not so excited about that night...LOL..

I appreciate your help greatly, very much looking forwards to this cruise, 247 days left to go.. and counting.

Hey Jackie,

Of all the questions I see on this website, easily the most frequently asked is about formal night. My honest answer is that you should wear what you feel comfortable with. My wife and I are old school, so we still dress up on formal night (suit and tie for me and a nice dress for her). Carnival just relaxed their attire rule for formal night. See Carnival.com for that. As of May, I still saw most men in jacket and ties (probably around 70%). Tuxes are almost non-existant. The other 30% of the guys were wearing khakis and a nice shirt. Your teens would certainly be in the norm with that kind of attire. Try not to make it an issue. We've cruised with people before that said they wouldn't go to dinner on the formal nights because they didn't want to get dressed up. Don't make that mistake. Wear what you want, but don't miss the formal dinners. They are the best. Many of those that dress up for dinner change clothing immediately after the meal (about 50/50). We have done it both ways, and either are certainly acceptable.

Hookedcruzer again Jeffrey, I totally agree with you again. Your cruise is all about attitude. We went on the Valor last year in August with about 17 family members. We booked the Western Carribbean, but was rerouted to the Eastern because of Hurricane Dean. That is where the complaining of 3 family members started until we got off the ship. There were 3000 + people aboard who had to be accommidated. The complained about everything from someone bumping into them, to the long line, to motion sickness, to just about everything else imaginable. The rest of us had an absolute ball considering we were on the very same ship as they were.

My son works at Ohare airport and always insist that we go down the day before. We always stay at the Airport Embassy Suites. Like you said, it is a beautiful hotel. I convinced my graduating class (35 years) to take a cruise and recommended that they all come down the day before and stay at the Embassy Suites. They all loved it and are planning again for 2010. Like you said with the flights the way they are, it's the best thing to do. One of the classmates had a 6 am flight and because of a storm didn't arrive in Miami until 3:30 pm. She and her family were glad that they had come the day before. My family and I can't wait on my classmates until 2010, so we will be on the Triumph/Western Carribbean in June, 2009. But since we are hooked, we'll still go with them in 2010. Can hardly wait.

Hi, My hubby and I and our 3 teenage children will be going on the Triumph in April doing the same Itinerary. We are having our wedding ceremony on the ship during a sea day (it's a renewal of vows). Can you give me any hints, tips, advice on any of the cruising details (this is our first cruise), 1 major question i have are the formal nights, I understand that there are two and I am curious as to just how formal they are, and what most women (especially) tend to wear during these nights. I have had so many mixed reviews and opinions it's getting crazy.. :) , formal nights is it just for dinner or the entire evening? I know these sound like silly questions, but i really am trying to get an honest answer. Thanks for all of your help.

We are doing great, I have to get my capers back from the couple coming on our cruise with us. Will get them this weekend.

And man planning a cruise over a year away is pure tourture.lol

we all met by the bar next to the pool..well you did..I was busy getting my S&S card fixed

You are the man, Eric (freddymale). Thanks for bailing me out on this one. I don't remember a meet and greet, but perhaps that was due to the Miller Lites (or maybe margaritas) in my system. Hope things are still well and good with those newly married. Jeri and I are still working on that next cruise. Busy, busy. As I write, I am in Dallas, TX, helping my eldest move to college. Ok Jeff

On the Fantasy they did the meet & greet the first night for my age group in a nice bar , I believe it was the Century Bar . They had a hallway going through where they did most of the photography in that area as well... It was a nice location and they had the Halloween Dance in there and also on most nights a guy that played guitar and sang for us . It was really nice & I enjoyed it a lot.

I wasn't sure if the Triumph does the Meet & Greets and which bars would be used for this . I am trying to set up my Birthday group and figure out a general itinerary of where we can meet up on certain days.

Congrats on the wedding. Here is my advice. Take time to appreciate everything and everyone around you. Time travels quickly, so don't get caught up on little things that might annoy you. Use all of your senses to take it all in. Take lots of deep breaths and enjoy yourself.

Is this advice about the Triumph or about your pending marraige? Yes.

Hi Deb,

I think the ship is just fine. Like I said in my review, if you want to find a rust spot, you will. I believe the ship, the service, and the food was as good or better than the other ships on which I have sailed.

All of the pools are small on any ship. Mostly they are occupied by children, with a few adults dangling their feet. Warning...the pools are salt water. If you are not ready for it, the salt is a big shock.

I haven't sailed with our kids before, so I am certainly not an expert on cruising as a family vacation. Others I have talked with say it is great.

We pick cruised based on value. The ports and ships, in my opinion, are about the same. Sure, we have our favorites. But, we have fun where ever we go.
