We are a family of 4. Myself (47), Husband Mike (47), son Jeromy (22), son Nathan (19). We are cruising with my friend of over 35 years, her family, husband and daughter, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

We got a great deal on this cruise since Nate and I had 50% from a cruise last Sept that was shortened. That discount combined with the military discount made it possible for us to get a suite. The first, and probably the last time we will have one so we are going to enjoy it.

Can't wait to get on the ship.

Roll Call for Dec. 07, 2009?

Anyone going with us?

Thanksgiving week 09 on Triumph

We are booked on the November 21st cruise to Bahamas during the week of Thanksgiving. So when Carnival informed me of the changes in the itinerary for the 11/10 cruise out of NOLA, I took it in stride. I just enjoyed another day in New Orleans. Hopefully the partial refund will take care of the room. This was my 7th cruise with Carnival and I have never had one complaint. There were a few things that left a bad taste in my mouth with this one though.

The biggest problem I have with Carnival and the 11/10 cruise is with the departure. Because I read the boards I know that what we were led to believe was going on, is total bunk. I have read this exact same scenario happening on another ship. I even think the "missing" girl's name was Shannon. I am pretty sure the delay in departure had something to do with the computer screw up during embarkation. It is just my guess but I don't think the ship can sail until everyone has keys to their rooms since that is were the life vest and station assignments are. I would have been happy with that and could understand. It is the misleading missing person story that just bugs the heck out of me. When I put my safety in someone else's hands I expect a certain level of honesty.

There was a few other petty things that I was not happy with but they were just that, petty. I did learn that I enjoy the Fantasy class ships more than the larger ships. That is just my opinion. I did have a good time and will cruise with Carnival again. But in this age of the internet, Carnival should know that everything that goes on is shared and it is not so easy to pull the wool over the publics eyes. I would much rather hear the truth. Happy Sailing.

roll call Dec.3 09 Triumph

I will be on the triumph with my husband and our best friends.
Ida: As everyone knows, the ship was delayed a day due to the storm. We are going to receive a 50% refund for our troubles. More than fair...Carnival can't be responsible for the weather. Still, our lovely 4 day cruise to Mexico had been turned into a wonderful 3 day cruise to nowhere. I'm okay with this. At least we'll sail to somewhere warm, feel the movement of the boat and see pretty blue water. That was my thought anyway. More on this later.

Embarkation: VIP boarding took 1.5 hours due to a computer glitch. It appears a great deal of the paperwork for all boarding was being done by hand. Room Keys/S&S cards were not available for some passengers but they were given stickers to put on that would allow them on the boat but not into their cabin.

Muster Drill: NO LIFEJACKETS REQUIRED!!!! This was a little pleasure. Quick and it was over. C'mon 4pm, let's get this thing moving!

The Boat: Beautiful. Nice ship, well maintained and clean. Everything you would expect from Carnival. Everything appeared to be working and ready to sail. The cabin was clean and ready to go when we got on board. The cabin steward introduced herself right away and was great. We never saw her again, but our cabin was kept clean and "made up" continuously. I still wonder how they know when you leave.

Sail Away: 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm and we're still not moving. We all had to go to our cabins for a head count. It seems they were missing someone named Shannon and couldn't leave until she was accounted for on the boat. 8pm, still in port. We were told several stories about why we were being delayed. 9pm and we're still in port. Shortly after 9pm we sailed down the river.

WWLTV reported the delay was the result of the manual checkin process, and they had to make sure everyone was on the boat before they could leave. Now we have a 2.5 day cruise.

Food and Drink: Drink was plentiful and met all my expectations. Man, I really like that Funship drink. The buffet was, IMHO, not up to Carnival standards. The breakfast on the Lido was okay except the omelets were undercooked every day. I only have ham on my omelets and the ham appeared to be almost a liguid. The food in the dining room was typical Carnival, prepared well and tasted great. The service was quick and friendly.

Entertainment: Shows were good, comedian was funny, the cruise director was hillarious. The slots in the casino are tight to say the least, and the head honcho, Precious, was nice enough, but someone needs to take the batteries out of the microphone she carries around. She was an expert at using the microphone....continuously. Several of the trivia games (and others as well, were held right beside the casino. Their microphone competing with the microphone Precious had was almost too muct to bear. Bring noise reduction ear plugs. The selection of slots is limited. I found the Casino to be smaller than the one on the Fantasy, but that may have just been a perception. I know there was more variety of slots to choose from on the Fantasy.

Smoking: Under control and in appropriate places for the most part. Not really a problem anywhere except the casino. The casino does have no smoking areas, but the smoking was almost unbearable. It even bothered my wife and she's a smoker.

The Kicker: On the first day at sea, the Captain made an announcement we were 70 miles south of New Orleans and we were just going to stay in the area. Keep in mind, most of that is Mississippi River, but we were 70 miles "as the crow flies" Nights were chilly to cold, but the days were warm if you were protected from the wind. If I would have known the ship was only going 70 miles, I would have cancelled the cruise and resheduled.

Overall, My wife and I enjoyed the cruise aside for the delays and shortened duration. We drank too much and slept too little. Everyone seemed to have a sense of humor about the delay. There were a couple of young ladies that had shirts made up with "I'm not Shannon" on the back. The general opinion of the passengers I personnaly spoke with was we were not told the correct story about the delay, and everyone was a little miffed about it but didn't let it ruin the entire cruise.

Last Night: I did have the wonderful experience of meeting some fine Cajun ladies in the piano bar. One of which I had been conversing with on this board. They were a great group and will remain my fondest memory of this cruise. I also met Dan and his wife from this board as well. They were next door to us. Last time I saw them, they were fused to the chair at one of the blackjack table. Nice people all.

Conclusion: Would I cruise the Triumph again. Yes! Do I prefer the Fantasy or the Ecstacy? Yes.

ROLL CALL 13FEBRUARY2010

Just change my booking to this date. I have a few questions regarding the kids coming along.

1. It is better to get a balcony or ocean view room? I ask this b/c we need all the room we can get - LOL!

2. Can my 12 yr old stay with the two others in the 9 - 11 age group? they don't want to be split....

3. For excursions: the kids want to do the zip line/snorkeling one - is that good one?

Please fill free to share any other advice as well. This will be our first "family" cruise and the first time on the Triumph as well.

thanks,

Does anyone know if this is offered on the Triumph? We are sailing on Dec 7th and my daughter would love to participate if it's offered. I'm seriously hoping it will be, since I have a feeling there won't be tons of kids on board for that trip.

Just back From Triump 10/10/09 Cruise

Ship was beautiful, food was excellent and hot tubs were working! Loved Canada but New England was absolutely beautiful. We will be doing this one again.

Roll call for Jan. 9,2010

4the time to cruise with Carnival. 1st time to go to the Keys & Bahamas!
