You can only get passports from the US State Department.

You can get the forms from any number of places, including local courthouses, post offices, and certain other state/federal government offices. If you're in the military, or work for them you can also do the paperwork there. I don't know which office on base though. Possibly whatever they call 'personnel'.

You can get the passport photos from any number of places as well, and most of them for a trivial cost. Walgreens is good. No glasses and don't smile. The State Department hates smiling Americans. Makes them think we're up to something.

The $100 is for the passport. You also have to pay for postage - to and from. It is worth it to go ahead and get the passport book. We had to fly to Grand Cayman last year to meet the ship. We were late due to travel delays. If we did not have our passports, we would have missed the entire cruise instead of the first 2 days. We even had to do expedited since we booked our cruise only about 6 weeks out.

Hi, Yeah i just went to the post office and did my pass port info and i got my pixs taken at walgreens with no problem. It did cast me morethe 100 is waslike 140. So is the price the same across the us or different?

We got ours at our County Clerks office and the cost was $100.00 each. They also did the pic's so for us it was a matter of convenience to have ours done where they do both the passport and picture together. The gal that waited on us was also very helpful filling out the correct information. It took approx. 3 weeks for us to receive ours. Also their hours worked best for us vs. our Post Office which had varied hours for passports. We opted for the passports as they will be necessary in the future and also a "must have" in case you need to fly home from a foreign country.

Don't get your pictures at the post office They will charge you 15 dollars for the pictures.

Go to Sam's club Costco Walmart etc for half the price.

And remember when you have your picture taken it has to meet certain requirements. Some Wal Mart and Rite Aids will now do passport photos.

I applied for a passport card back in March and I still haven't received them. I called yesterday and paid the difference to get a passport book. That way I am covered if I want to fly.

We just applied for passports for our children and it took exactly 2 weeks and we did not pay any extra. If you are 16 and older it is $100 and is good for 10 years. If under 16 it is $60 and is good for 5 years. In my opinion, it is not worth the expense to get the cards as they are not good for anything other than land crossings. They are not valid for air travel so they will do you no good if you need to be airlifted from a port of call ! We got all of ours from the post office. There is a list on the travel.gov website of post offices that provide passport services. Also, they took our pictures there so I did not have to worry about them being rejected.

What are pass port cards..i hear they work just as well for Mexico and Canada and some other places and are quicker to get and cost less

Passport Home

This is the official website for US passports. You can fill the form out online and then print it out. The cost is $100 for an adult. You can mail it in or go to a post office that has a passport agent and some smaller courthouses also do it. You will need a photo ID, a certified copy of your birth certificate and 2 color photos.

Just a hint on the photos, don't wear light a light colored shirt when you have them taken, they tend to be to light and they will be rejected.

When I applied for a new one in 2005, my original had expired in 1977, it took 2 weeks. My husband was renewing his and it took 4 weeks. I have heard from co-workers that it can now take up to 8 weeks so the sooner you apply the better.

I went to my local post office and ordered my pass port. It was $60 and it is good for 10 years. It takes awhile for them to come back so order it early.
