Need Someone to Advise Me

    Need Someone to Advise Me

I need some advise, and my explanation as to why is rather lengthy.

In late July, my husband and I decided to go on a cruise. with our son and his wife and two children, his in-laws, and my elderly in-laws.  We paid our money and thought we were paid up.  Then, due to obligations, we had to change our cruise date.  We had to pay $50 for each person to change dates.  Then, in late October, our daughter's two children wanted to go.  We then paid for them, and for an upgrade for our son.  (have to be fair and balanced)  I filled out the needed information and had my funpass ready.   Then,  two days later, I receive an email from Carnival telling me that all info was not completed.  Went to my info on Carnival's website, and discovered that my room and my inlaws rooms were cancelled because we had not paid balance.  I was informed that Carnival had emailed and called us and received no response.  This is incorrect. They reinstated us but told us the rooms were gone.  Now, we were in a group on same floor with our son and his family and his inlaws.  We booked two rooms on another deck on the opposite end of boat.  I was told that if a cabin on the other floor became available, I could change.

Well, two rooms did become available, and we took them.  But when I received confirmation, we were charged $100 administration fee for each room.  Is this what is usually done, or should I request that this be removed?

    Please advise.

I can't answer all of your questions, but first let me say you are one incredibly generous person, and if you are being requested to pay some additonal fees id ask your family to chip in since they're getting a wonderful trip from you...

with that said, my cousin daughter and myself are going on a cruise in december, and he wanted to add his boyfriend to the group (we booked a suite that holds 4 people) but Carnival said you can't add people once the reservation is paid... the problem with the changing of dates is that fares are different week to week to week... what is costing us about 2000 on 13 dec is costing 3500 the following week, and then 2500 two weeks past that.  you didn't say what categories everyone was booked for and if you got a downgrade by being put on the samefloor as the rest of the family... i haven't heard of an admin fee... when my TA just upgraded us it was just $250 for the room, the difference in price from category to category... so maybe the person you spoke with mis-stated what the extra $ was for, and it was an increase in room price?  you should just call carnival and ask them to explain it to you, thier customer service people are pretty amazing and i've never had any trouble with them in the past :)  goodluck!

Re: Need Someone to Advise Me

Is the $100 fee for changing the dates? If this was paid up front, I would provide Carnival copies of my receipt. If I were in your shoes, I would verify that my cruise was paid for, provide them with receipts, check on their policies for each situation and ask for the fee to be removed. Please remember to always do this in kindness. Way too many people pull out the guns and start firing away at the poor customer service rep. and this does more harm than good. I know I am always more apt to help someone out and be flexible when the person is polite than if they are jumping down my throat. Not saying you would not be kind so please don't take offense, I just know that dealing with upset customers can escalate and way too many people start off making demands and not allowing companies to right a wrong. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

    Nana,

The only reason Carnival would charge to move you from one cabin to another is because you ended up changing cabin categories. I would have to ask if you were dealing with carnival directly, because that would be something an unscrupulous travel "agent" would do.

Using an experienced travel consultant would perform this service without charging an additional fee.
