    Rum and Rum Cake

In Jamaica we bought delicious rum cake and vanilla rum that our daughter loved.  Can you buy rum cake in the Bahamas?  Can't remember the name of the vanilla rum but it was delicious too.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Additional note - I think the brand of rum and rum cake was "Tortuga". Both delicious!

    Re: Rum and Rum Cake

I am not sure about the Bahamas but I know they sell it in the US. I see the rum cakes in my local liquor store. It is probably more expessive here. We are headed to Grand Cayman in a couple of weeks and I know there is a Tortuga store there, so I would think there would be a store in the Bahamas. Here is their website:

    I hope this helps!

I know you can buy it in Nassau... they had a store that sold them, and there was a pirate statue. I just remember because my boyfriend and I took goofy pics, with the pirate. But I hope you enjoy the rum cake :).

Like others have posted you can get them online and in the gift shop on your ship. If you buy it on your ship just check the expiration date because I have heard from others who purchased a cake on their ship that had expired.

yeah the cake was most likely Tortuga.  It is good but....

I have an awesome recipe for a Bacardi rum cake that I make all of the time and everybody raves about it.  It takes minutes to make and gets better the longer it sits(which really is more than 2 days around my house)  I think it is from All recipes.com.  It calls for vanilla instant pudding, yellow cake mix etc.  I make it for holiday gifts and work functions.  If anybody wants the recipe let me know and I will post.

Grand Cayman also has another brand called "BlackBeard." We got one of the original flavors two weeks ago, but haven't ate it yet.  The samples were very similar to Tortuga.

We've also seen Tortuga Rum Cakes at Bass Pro Shop (Destin, FL), just in case you don't buy enough on your vacation.

    Re: Rum and Rum Cake

The recipe is from about.com-sorry I mentioned wrong site before-hope it's ok to post.

about.com Bacardi Rum Cake from Carroll Pellegrinelli(this is from the website)

     Cake

1 cup chopped, toasted pecans or walnuts

    1 18 1/2 ounch yellow cake mix

1 small size instant vanilla pudding mix

    4 eggs

    1/2 cup cold milk

    1/2 cup vegetable oil

    1/2 cup Bacardi dark rum

    Glaze

    1/2 cup butter

    1/4 cup water

    1 cup sugar

    1/2 cup Bacardi dark rum

Cake-preheat over to 325F degrees. Grease and flour12-cup Bundt pan.  Sprinkle nuts on bottom of pan.  Combine all cake ingredients.  Beat for 2 minutes on high with mixer.  Pour into prepared pan.  Bake for 1 hour.  Cool in pan.  Invert on serving plate.  *** top with fork.  Drizzle glaze over top of cake.

Glaze:  Melt butter in saucepan.  Stir in water and sugar.  Boil  5 minutes stirring constantly.  Remove from heat and stir in rum.  Note:  The rum will cause steam.  Be careful not to burn yourself.

I have a friend that uses a lemon cake mix and lemon rum which is good.  I guess you could also use a chocolate cake mix.  This cake is really good!

Thanks to Lisa in Delaware.  I'm anxious to try your recipe now.  It looks so good.  It will be a good one to try for Thanksgiving.

Also, does anyone know if you can buy the Tortuga flavored rum in the Bahamas - to be exact, I'm looking for the vanilla rum.  Thanks.
