    Hurricane IDA...at the moment

    The forecast for Ida
Ida will likely spend a full two days over Nicaragua and Honduras, and there is a chance that Ida will dissipate. The HWRF and ECMWF don't show much surviving of Ida after crossing into the Western Caribbean. However, the other models like Ida's chances of surviving, and it is the case that the storm's core will be tracking over relatively low elevation land (Figure 2), increasing the chances that Ida can survive the crossing intact. If Ida survives the crossing and emerges into the Western Caribbean on Saturday, moderate wind shear of 15 - 20 knots and warm waters await it, and some modest strengthening is likely. A trough of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend should be able to propel Ida northwards into the Gulf of Mexico. The long-term fate of Ida if it reaches the Gulf of Mexico is hard to guess at this point, though the odds are against Ida hitting the U.S. as a hurricane, due to high wind shear.

Keep checking with Carnival.com for updates on Ida and the cruises/itineraries that might be affected. DO not bombard 800 Carnival for information. They'll likely have very limited if any information as it is yet too early.

Most of the reliable computer models are putting Ida southeast of Cozumel sometime on Sunday and then into the Yucatan Channel early Monday morning as a tropical storm. Long range model runs have Ida in the central to eastern Gulf on late Monday and Tuesday. Again these are just model runs that assist in forecasting. They are not the official froecast from NHC.

sounds like my first cruise is going to be interesting. I am leaving out of Galveston this Sunday Nov. 8 on a 7 day Western Carribean cruise aboard the Conquest. I really hope to be going to the ports that I actually booked but wherever we go I just hope its fun.

Believe me.  If you are on a cruise ship and you want to have fun,  you will have fun.  If you want to enjoy yourself, you will enjoy yourself.  You just have to let it happen and don't worry about the small stuff.  If the ports change, my, what a surprise.

I cruise out of New Orleans in 5 days.  I'm not worried at all.  If the cruise ship sails, I'll be happy even if we just take a long route to Pensacola.  Heck, go out in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico and drop an anchor...good enough for me.

You might run into some rough water and rain. I live in Corpus and they are saying that Ida was calming down and just turning into a depression. Too late in the year for any major things to be happening. Just watch for rough seas and rain.

You will enjoy your cruise no matter what!!!!!!

    Happy Cruising!

Cruising out of Mobile on the Fantasy in four days.  I thought we were through "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season" by now, but I intend to sip a tall cold one and watch the weather go by whereever we sail.

My family and I are cruising on the Fantasy then too and we don't care where we end up.  We would of course like a little bit of sun so my son can play in the water.

I hear ya.  If it's away from work and cell signal, it will be just fine.  The Triumph is supposed to be realy nice now.  Lot of good reviews.  I don't care where it goes, as long as it goes.

    Re: Hurricane IDA...at the moment

From what I've heard, Carnival is rerouting Triumph to go to Jamaica first. That's the only one that I know of so far.  I was suppose to stay in the storm stage,  now wether is saying that it will turn back into a hurricane for a while.

Hold on to your hats and Happy cruisin!!!!!!!!

    Re: Hurricane IDA...at the moment

I just read that they won't make any announcements until at least 24-48 hours before the sailing.  So, for now, we sit and wait...and wait....and wait.  Oy Vey!

I was reading on Cruise Critic last night that Carnival is changing routes around. They probably are not sayin much yet in order to see where Ida is going exactly. good luck with your cruises everyone. Where ever you end up, have a great time. Happy Sailing
