Today was the second sea day since our cruise began and we decided to take full advantage of it...we slept in till 7:30am.
Got dressed and the kids up in the next cabin and down to the Lido Deck for the breakfast buffet. I believe a lot of other cruisers were thinking the same thing because it was a ghost town down on the Lido Deck. Where were the 2900 passengers...?
No lines what so ever for breakfast and I was hungry big time. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, wheat toast, and my Frosted Flake Cereal with sliced bananas. We enjoyed the morning selecting a table next to the window. These are premium seats when the place is packed with hungry cruisers but not this morning. We had time to reflect on the previous 3 days in Key West, Freeport, and Nassau, Bahamas.
It was with a certain about of sadness...and I would absolutely describe it that way, we truely began to realize that our wonderful cruise would be ending in only two more days. But still happy thoughts abounded...and the eternal smile still etched on my son's face. His first cruise ever...
We took our time getting back to the cabin to change into our swimming trunks and making a b-line for the Lido Deck and some lounge chairs. The Conquest on its return passage to Galveston will take a far southernly course line its trip to Key West. It was nice and hot that day with tempertures in the low 90's.
We had no longer been up on deck when around 10am and Air Force Navy Jet did a fly over the ship....and I mean low over the ship. He came out of no where with that sonic boom and scared the crap out of nearly everyone up on the Lido Deck. All the men ran to the starboard side to watch it streak into the distance headed back toward the Florida Coastline somewhere hidden in the distance. Us guys were taking about the fly over for at least an hour.
Lunch came quickly and I decided to hit the Chinese Wok. I love Chinese food. And I love using those chop-sticks.
The afternoon activity on the Lido was a Bean-Bag throwing contest...but there was a catch....you had to be blind-folded. 6 throws of the bean bag landing on a wooden platform. If you got 3 to land and stay put you received the coveted 24 carat gold plastic ship trophy. The line was long but I tried my luck...or I should really say no-luck. All wide right. Hey...I had fun anyway.
The afternoon went quickly and around 3pm we decided to go play some Putt-putt up next to basketball court and volley ball court. I had a blast considering I am an advid golfer back in Dallas, Texas our home. Needless to say I won amongst the four of us. It is 9 hole and a par 22. My wife Brenda shot a 31, my daughter in law Diane shot a 28, my son Charles Lee shot a 24, and I shot a 20. It was really no contest...I knew I would probably win but I was more scared of losing than anything else, cause I would never have heard the end of it....guys you know exactly what I am talking about.
Back to our cabins to change for dinner at 6pm. Tonight was another Elegant Night in the Monet Resturant. The food and service was great again.
After dinner down to Deck 5 for some speciality portraits. My wife's idea...my head was somewhere in the Casino.
Finally... to the Casino to continue my luck at the Craps table...but it was not to be. Losing $60 this evening. I knew I was playing with house money again but I honesty liked the feeling of that cash in my pocket.
The 10pm movie up on the Lido Deck at the SeaSide Theater was "Madea Goes to Jail". We really were not up for another movie this night. Decided to just walk around up on deck and enjoy the ocean breeze and the stars.
Called it a day around 11pm and hit the sack.
Stay tuned for my review of Day 7 our last full day on the Conquest...
