    smokin'

this is our first carnival cruise. we have done the royal carribean 3 day cruises until they took the ship away. My question is this..have any of you had issues with staterooms that smell from smoke? rccl didn't allow smoking in their staterooms and carnival does. It has us a little concerned. Any thoughts?

     thanks

If you really want to start a war, go to cruiscritics.com and post this question in the Carnival forum,,you will see a fun war break out.

I have never been on a Carnival ship yet,,will be soon,, but I  have sailed on Holland America 4 times.  They have the same basic policies as CCL which is that smoking is allowed in all staterooms, there are no non-smoking cabins.  But I will also share this.  On one of my cruises on HAL I stepped into my stateroom and almost passed out from the stale smoke smell.  I asked my cabin steward if anything could be done.  He asked what I was doing and I told him I was going to lunch (this was obviously during embarkation) and he told me he would take care of it.  After lunch we returned to our cabin and it was a fresh as a daisy.  I think they have some kind of heavy duty atomizers and room freshners that can take out the smell.

On the cruise critics forum I have read people saying that they did have smelly cabins and that Carnival was able to freshen the rooms for them.  but some still bring that Febreeze stuff with them, jsut to be sure.

I have not ever had a problem with this issue. I have cruised nearly 30 times on
Carnival and on every class of their ships. I do know that it is possible and I know they have a solution for your concerns that does work. Just got back from the Conquest and during this cruise they held the Art auction in Alfred's aka the cigar bar. First, I thought no way, that has to be the stinkiest room on the whole ship. Then to my surprise I got there and there wasn't even the slightest trace of smoke smell. They use some type of purifiers that eliminate the smell. Honestly, I have had this happen more frequently in the nicer hotels than on Carnival ships. Hope this helps! CD

Thanks for your responses. I just might go over to that other site. Always looking to stir the pot!
