When can you board the ship?

We are going on our first Carnival cruise 11/15/09- 11/21/09. We are leaving from Fort Lauderdale and I was wondering what time can you start boarding the ship? Any recommendations? What time to arrive at Port? Any suggestions on a somewhat quick check in?

Kris, based on past experiences, you could be on as early as 11:45am. But usually it's 12:15 or after. Carnival lists embarkation as beginning at 1:30, but as many of you know, people begin showing up as early as 9-10am.

The earlier you arrive at the pier, the earlier you can board the ship. Embarkation will also be smoother and faster.

    Hope this helps. CD

The last two cruises out of Miami we started boarding at 11:15, I was on the ship eating my cheeseburger by 11:30. Depends on how soon customs clears the ship and everyone from the previous cruise is off.

Re: When can you board the ship?

On our first cruise we arrived at the port at about noon and got right on with about a 25 minute embarkation process.  That was in Port Canaveral.  So, after reading the boards between that cruise and our most recent one (October on Spirit), we decided to go earlier as many people said they frequently arrived early and were on the ship early.  We arrived at the port (San Diego) at 11:30ish.  It took maybe 15 minutes to go through the lines, etc.  However, we were not able to board until about 12:45.  As many people have said, it just depends upon many different factors. I say it is worth a try to get there a little early and possibly get on the ship earlier!!!!
