I read a thread that mentioned how rough the seas were out of Baltimore and they didn't calm down until they were almost in Flordia. Has anyone else expereinced this situation on the Pride?  We are sailing on the Pride Dec 7th and want to be prepared.

First the seas are rough or calm based on weather at the time. So no way to tell. Jan we had real rough out of FL. May we had bathtub smooth out of MD. Nothing to do with ports but the weather at the time.  One plus Carnival quotes for Baltimore is the calm seas. A good part of the trip down the coast is in sheltered water that can't be rough. Yeah if you catch a storm you catch a storm. Even without a storm the seas can be rough or calm based on the winds at the time. Last trip you never knew you were on a ship. Before that the props were coming out of the water and the bow was slamming and then the big roll as we had to surf the waves to go the direction we needed to. Just the luck of the draw.

I am hoping for seas that are as smooth as silk....I for one hate the rock and roll cruise! We were on the Glory late July and the seas were as smooth as I have even seen them. I know the Pride is a slightly smaller ship and I just am wondering why kind of a ride I can expect. I had always heard that the cruises to Bermuda are rough which is why I guess I havn't cruised there.

I am asking for the same calm sea for my Pride cruise out of Baltimore in 2010 but I know that aint happening. I have  lived in the Baltimore area all my life and have found the Atlantic to be a little rough at times until you get around South Carolina or Florida. It will be smoother once you get in the Caribbean waters. Good luck weather wise and I hope you guys have calm seas.

We lived in the northeast and where big boaters back in the day.....I am hoping that the ocean is kind to us this trip!  I have never been sea sick and I don't plan on starting with this cruise.....I will be celebrating my 50th B-day in style and NOT in the bathroom!

My wife and I just returned from the Pride cruise to the Bahamas.  This was my 4th crusie and my wife's 1st cruise.  She found it to be particularly rough.  Actually the whole cruise was a bit rougher than I remembered, but it is also the first time I've cruised in October.  My previous cruises were all in the beginning of the summer.  I spent the months leading up to this cruise telling my wife that she won't even realize she is on a boat, so I lied a little. 

 That being said, it was by no means horrible.  According to the crew, we experience some 9-10 foot swells.  To be honest, the only part of the ship where I personally felt it the most was the dining room.  Other than that, it really was not that bad.  I think if you are used to sailing, you should not have an uncomfortable experience.  Enjoy!

Thanks for the update!!!  We are seasoned cruisiers but the Pride is a little smaller than most of the ships we have been on.  We don't sail until Dec 6th so we are hoping the seas will clam a bit before we go!!  :

Take dramamine just in case! We sailed out of baltimore Oct. 11, it wasn't so bad going down, but coming back, wooo! We left Freeport and that night hit storms, which, lightening out on the ocean is really fun watch. But the swells were quite large... I don't know how large exactly, but we were 7th floor, forward balcony, and the next morning, our balcony looked liked a glazed donut from all the salt crystals. Swells continued most of the next day, we went to the dining room for lunch, and it was hard to hear conversation from all the rattling of silverware and dishes, and as we were leaving one of the hostesses was extremely pale, and said that she was seasick. The pools were emptying themselves from all the sloshing back and forth, I heard that they eventually just drained them.

I will be taking my 13th cruise on November 8 out of Baltimore.  My experience has shown me that the water is rough when you leave from the "North".  I have left from NYC, Norfolk and both times it was rough going  (from Norfolk, I was really sick for the first time that I have taken cruises) until we got into the warmer waters...just take motion sickness meds before you get on the ship and keep taking them until you arrive in warmer waters....then start taking them when you start back to Baltimore.  This time around I bought "SeaBand" it cost $10 in CVS, goes on your wrist - it is even recommended for 'morning sickness".  Hope this helps.

With the northern Atlantic being colder water you will have a higher liklihood of rougher seas. On my trip in May it was a bit rough but got calmer as we approached Florida. Even then I heard and a group of people complained they could feel the ship move until someone, very loudly, exclaim "you are on a moving ship"! They shut up really quickly then!

A few tips. One, take some motion sickness medicine. They work really well and helped a lot and the most improtant thing is to go with the flow of the ship and dont fight the movement. Yes, you will stagger down the hallways but fighting the movements is surely going to make you seasick.

I have been cruising for more years than I want to say, only because it will show my age!! I never get sea sick and I have been in rough seas....my issue is I just don't like it and I can't sleep when the boat is rocking due to rough seas. This causes my S&S Card balance to increase because I will spend hours in the casino! YIKES!

My family and I just returned from the Pride's 11/1 sailing.  We had extremely smooth sailing in my opinion.  The very first night (middle of the night, early morning), we had some noticable motion, but nothing that would make you feel queasy.  The rest of the trip was smooth sailing.  The final day, on our way back north, the sea was as calm as I've ever seen, and this was my 14th cruise.  I have sailed to Bermuda out of New York twice, and had smooth sailing as well.  In fact, out of all the cruise I have been on, the worst seas I've encountered were out of Miami in March, through the Florida Straits....20 foot swells (no storms, just rough waters).  I truly feel it is the luck of the draw!  I'm curious how the seas are this week with Ida affecting the Northeast coast!  Enjoy your cruise!  :)

I leave is 23 days and can't wait!!! I am hoping for seas that are as smooth as silk :-) I have a friend that left on the Legend last Sunday, she called me from the CRUISE.....crazy girl and told me that they encountered 12-15 foot seas Sunday night but all was calm by late Monday morning.

Just returned from the Carnival Pride Nov. 8-15th.  Beautiful weather in the Bahamas!  Low humidity and sunshine...coming back on Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th very rough seas and high winds due to the storm on the eastcoast.  No one was allowed out on the decks due to the high winds and waves.

All in all though, it was a beautiful vacation...Love those islands in the Bahamas!
