Hi, I am a first time cruiser, my cruise is on Dec 14th on Paradise for 4 days to Baja, I am concerned about getting sea sick. I heard that the doctors on board can give you a anti-nausea injection or pills does anyone know the name of the pill or the injection?

Hi Cynthia,  I always take Bonine with me, over the counter, chewable, work well for planes, ships, cars.  I used them in the Carribean and in Alaska during rough seas. If you are really concerned ask your doctor about the patches, goes behind your ear and you change every 3 days.  they are small skin colored so don't show. Also probably a lot cheaper then getting something on board.  I always heard that the shots you can get on board are for after you got sick.

Yes to all of the above.  I use them all the time.  They'll probably make you a little drowsy, but with all the excitement of the cruise, I never noticed it.  My husband used Bonine.  We had very rough waters on our cruise last year and neither of us felt sick.

It's strictly whatever works for you.  Have a great trip!

If you usually do not get motion sickness, you might not have a problem at all.   another thing you can use if you do not want to take meds is to get ginger pills, or just drink ginger ale that will also help out.

If you have to get a shot for motion sickness from the onboard staff you will be paying for that.

 

Not sure exactly what the injectible meds are, but my daughter had to get one on the first night of our cruise.  It ended up knocking her out and it also cost around $60 or so, so you'd be advised to work something out ahead of time and leave the shot for a last resort!

Motion Sickness: complimentary Dimenhydranate (Dramamine) is available from the Infirmary, Room Service or the Information Desk, free of charge. A motion sickness shot can be administered to those who are actively vomiting, but not as preventive medicine; there is a fee for the shot. The Infirmary does not have motion sickness patches or wristbands. 

thanks Carol, I have done many web searches on all meds. i guess i will have to do a trial run next month on all pills even the prescription ones and see which helps. when it comes to planes i dont get sick i really never been on a plane no more than 30 mins.i get a little car sick when i am reading and the car is moving. your going a cruise on my birthday,, have fun,

Hi Billy I heard about those but how effective are they since everyones body is different I have no idea how i will tolerate it. But i will try a patch before i leave..

 Hi, Cynthia!  When you get on board go the Customer Service counter and ask them for 'motion sickness pills' they will give you a small envelope that holds about 4 pills.  Carry it on yourself onboard all the time and if you get an upset stomach(it's not - oh!  I think I ate something that was not good) - it'smotion sickness.  Take a pill with a little water and take another every 4 hours.  On CCL they give you the pills free at the CS counter - do not go into the shops, if you do they will sell it to you.
