Re: Supper Club (response and short review)

To be candid, I did not ask, however, I certainly had more than enough to eat with my dinner (and I am someone who will eat 2 entrees at dinner, just to try different things).

As for the evening, I must say the food was very good.  This is not meant to be a negative review, so please don't take this as such.  My wife and I had decided to have celebrate our anniversary at this restaurant because we heard so much about it.  I will preface this by saying that I have been fortunate enough and spoiled enough to eat in some of the best steakhouses around and have experienced incredible dining.  So the food was very good, but I thought I've had better steaks. Also, I was a bit disappointed by the whole "experience".  I had the impression that there was a pianist and a singer for dancing during the evening (in between courses and after dinner), however there was not.  We were expecting a whole "experience" for the $30 per person and so I was a little disappointed.  We ate very good food all week long and so we didn't want to pay (even though it was only $60) just for food.  We could have had that at the dining room.

Again, everything was very good.  We had a wonderful dinner, alone, and celebrated our anniversary very romantically.  I was just hoping to have more of an evening out.  My wife and I both agreed that, knowing what we know now, if we had the chance to do it over again, we would skip David's.  Again, that being said- it was still a very good dinner.  It was basically that my expectations were set on one particular idea and it did not happen that way.

That would be my concern too.

Not that is it worth $60, but is it worth $60 more than the food in the dining room, including Formal Night food selections.

Plus, I guess we have been lucky to get really excellent service in the dining room.  I can't image anywhere being better, especially $60 better.

I personally think the food was better in the supper clubs than the dining rooms on all of the ships we have been on.  Service is not really better, just more personal and it is just more of a personalized dining experience.  I would never go to the supper club on formal night only because I like to see everyone dressed up but I think it is a great option for a couple or some friends or families that want a smaller, more attentive meal, also with a better selection on the menu.

I have yet to go to a supper club that had dancing or a dance floor.  There is normally some kind of music playing.  We usually do this 2 times each cruise just to get a few nights with just us.  Not a big crowd and a little peace and quiet.

The Valor supper club had a dance floor and a small combo with a singer.  She was quite good.

I reluctantly have to agree with you on the general theme of your review. There were some excellent aspects to David's and some very poor. To begin on a bright note, the sommelier was excellent and even though we had brought a bottle from home in, decanted it properly and brought Reidel glasses - she was quite young, only in her early twenties but extremely efficient and pleasant. She was good at her job and deserved the 20 we gave her as a tip. The champagne we ordered from the list was properly chilled and opened and her service was prompt but not obvious.

Our regular server would have been fired from McDonald's. I have seldom had such bad service with such a lack of interest from someone who obviously was unhappy with either their position or their guests. Since I did not know at that time the gratuity was included, I left the bare minimum.

The steak was a higher grade than the dining room but the salad was overdressed to the point of being limp with oil. I thought the dessert was too sweet (I know, can that even be possible?). A very nice touch was the delivery to our cabin of the leftovers. We found them in the minibar fridge when we came back in from the late show and piano bar.

David's get a very mixed review from us. We're hoping the supper club on the Spirit has better service and more outstanding accompaniments. I'll let you all know when we get back.

    Wow, that is rather nice.

Is it worth $60?  I am not so sure.

Re: Supper Club (response and short review)

Of course that's for 2. My answer to your statement is "probably" but I live in a town where 30 bucks pp for lunch alone is not at all unusual.

Overall, I think it's a fair price for the food and ambience. I do hope the menu has changed in the 10 months since we've eaten at an onboard supper club. Some variety would be nice. Some of the food combinations were not to my liking but that's just my palate - I've never thought lemon and chocolate go together particularly well and chicken with blackberry reduction is, well...still chicken.

We'll let you know how the Nouveau is.

Suzie, we spend way more then 60 dollars when we go to an early dinner in San Diego and it isn't nearly as good.  This was our first time eating at the supper club and it  was nice having food that was hot. They were very good about offering more food if we wanted, and did have a few extra appetizers. yummy. The dessert was way to sweet for me so hubby got it.

We requested a window table and of course they had one for us. Then we changed our minds and went upstairs so we could watch people come in. The Spirit has a bar downstairs and it does have a floor where dancing could be done. We ate early so I have no clue about that.

We were each able to get 2 different appetizers since we couldn't make up our mind. the crab cakes were excellent, the snails...they are...umm chewy.

do you want to sit upstairs or down stairs? Call the desk when you first board and make a requeste first thing.

    Re: Supper Club

Tipping in the supperclub is optional.  However, the food and service is so impecable, I would feel guilty if we had not tipped extra.  We tipped 20% in cash.  It is more than worth the price.

    Re: Supper Club

We also tipped them. There weren't many people in the supper club and they were very talkative and went beyond excellent service forus. I would do it again.
