Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

My wife and I are taking our 2 daughters, our son-in-law, the youngest daughter's boyfriend, and our two grandsons on the Destiny for Thanksgiving. We expect to have a great cruise on the Destiny, as well as a great cruise on the Holiday's final cruise in two weeks. Cruisers are responsible for their own attitudes. If you go expecting to have a great time and do the onboard activities, you'll have the vacation of a lifetime. If you start out grumpy, you'll have a terrible vacation. Happy campers are happy campers. Grumpy campers are grumpy campers. BTW, we're hoping that the Holiday has engine troubles, and we might get an extra Fun Day at Sea for free.

                Kalyn            Diane            Me            Rosie

We love you Kalyn Padget and Rosie Unsworth (our lovely adopted daughters), Amy Barton, Melanie Therrien, TJ, and Rick! The Fun Crew puts the fun in Carnival Cruising! Thank you Butch for being a fantastic CD!

I've only been off the Holiday for a short time, and I'm already having fits of melancholy. I guess unless we can cruise every two months, I'll probably never be satisfied again.

Our 7 YO and 6 YO grandsons decided that they would prefer a Thanksgiving Cruise to Key West and Cozumel on the Destiny to Thanksgiving in Orlando/Kissimmee this November. We must be teaching them well. Thanks for an excuse for my booking another cruise, guys!

We went on two Norwegian Cruise Line Tramp Steamer Cruises - Thank goodness we were too busy on our honeymoon in 1978 to realize how crummy the cruise actually was - Then they ruined our 2007 Hawaii Cruise that was my retirement gift from my wife - Two chances is enough! - Never again!

Our current future dream cruise is 15 days back-to-back on the Freedom / 8-day Eastern (Fort Lauderdale) and the Valor / 7-day Western (Port of Miami) with a 45 minute private shuttle ride in between the two Fun Ships.

yes in ocho rious we took the "gardens and highlights" tour, that takes you to Shaw park. which if you like plants and nature (in this case JUNGLE) you will love it. also takes you to "dunns river falls" its beautiful , We never climbed it but i walked from top to bottom on steps next to it, got many pictures. our tour guide was the best,  the guide warned us of what to be aware of . meaning the local venders wanting to sell there stuff , they can be pretty aggressive so be aware of that, if you dont want something be FIRM on your " I DONT WANT IT ".   took a bus ride threw town  to top of mountain, seen many of picturesque spots but the ride there does not stop for pics. stoped at the local shopping plaza in downtown ocho, its like most anywhere in the world after the first couple shops you;ve seen most of it.

but now at Cayman was a different story, we set out on foot shopping and loved it there !!    you have more freedom in cayman , meaning the local venders are there but not aggressive like Jamaica.  over all our vacation was awesome.

Your cruise is what you make it.  While we have never been on the Destiny, we have been on several other ships.  I have never had such a bad experience as you.  If my cabin was dirty, I would have made a quick trip to the purser's office and lodged a complaint immediately.  We have had a few things go wrong on our cruises but I will be darned if it would ruin my entire cruise.  Each ship has it's own charm and I have never met a ship I didn't like.

You are absolutely right.  Although the experience was not what I  expected, it did not ruin my whole cruise.  We were there to celebrate our son's 40th Birthday and we had a lot of fun in spite of the bad service and mediocre food.  And since 6 of our cabins were in the same section on deck 6, we all got the same bad service.  BTW, I did lodge a complaint at the purser's desk.  .

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

We had chosen our destinations VERY CAREFULLY. I had already been to Nassau and Cancun. We wanted to go somewhere we had never been before. Carnival had a cruise to Grand Cayman/Jamaica. We WERE ELATED.We checked in our baggage and parked our car.Checked in for the cruise when a letter was handed out stating that the itin. had been changed due to a prob.with the ship.We would no longer go to Jamaica/Grand Cayman. We would be visiting Nassau/Freeport.The letter also stated they were giving us 20% off our next cruise with Carnival.STUNNED,CONFUSED,

UPSET, FRUSTRATED.We had taken time off work, paid for Jamaica and we were getting Nassau, all Carnival can say is We will give you 20% off your next cruise? REALLY?WHAT?Well we got onboard. This was our 1st cruise. We didn’t know what to do.Ship went to the Keys. And just sat on the ship wondering WHY?Why us?  Then some people said. They refunded money in Miami.  WHAT?The letter said nothing about get a refund.I could have drove home and went back to work.I went to the information desk.BOY, was that a mistake.THEY WERE RUDE!And I guess they had ALOT of angry people to deal with, long lines.they said,If you want any refund then refuse the gratuity.I stood there thinking.HOW can a LARGE corporation like carnival say.Get a refund by not tipping our staff.HOW SAD is that?RUDE!DISRESPECTFUL!After telling them how wrong they were.I stepped away and decided I would try to make the "Best of the WORSE" FIRST cruise experience that I could. And I know they didn't have any control over the weather but we were unable to do the shore excursion planned because it was raining hard so they cancelled them.

I know things happen but it could have been a much better cruise and I would have still been disappointed but would have considered cruising with with Carnival again because they did the right thing and refunded the difference in price from the cruise I paid for and the cruise I got.  But Carnival chose to be greedy and not only suggested that I not tip the wait staff but also refused to refund any money... Instead offering 20% off the next cruise...lol... I can find deeper discounts than that online..  NO THANKS Carnival you will not get my business again

    Satisfied,

Me and a friend were also on the Destiny Sept 17 and we too had a great time! we met some wonderful peopel, two of which we have kept in contact with and are plan to visit or travel with in the future. We did'nt have any problems on this ship 9other than things were a little hard to find at times).  In fact, I  will be cruising again the early part of next year, but this time with my fiance' and other friends and I'm thinking about sailing on the Destiny again. I have also been on the Victory (2004) and the Legend (2008), both of with were fine. We may like to try another cruise line in the future, like Royal Caribean, just to compare, but I've been happy with Carnival. True, the buffet food was just ok, but hey, its a buffet for ALOT of people! But I thought the dining room food on the Destiny was really good and our waiters were great. I can hardly wait to sail again, no matter what ship we choose. :)

Re: Don't sail on the Destiny

I cruised the Destiny by myself for a much needed break.    The ship was great; the staff were nice and gee whiz...you can't beat the value for every dollar you spend.  I think 99% of the staff do a fantastic job of catering to you.

This is a nice ship; 99% of the people aboard are there to PARTY (they start serving drinks VERY early).   Grab yourself a seat by the jumbo tron; get a cold drink in your hand and just people watch.   That was half of my fun.

The food was pretty good.  I will repeat what I have read many times; you are truly cheating yourself if you don't do the dining room.  The service is EXCELLENT there and if you don't care for the plate you ordered; you can order something else (I didn't do this personally but a lady at my table did this EVERY night).

    Enjoy your TRAVELS
