    St Thomas

St Thomas was by far my favorite port on my caribbean cruise. Right when we got off the ship we went to the gondalas and rode them up the mountain to get a look at the scenery. We shopped a little up there and had their famous bushwacker drinks. After we were done we went to Magen's Bay which had been highly recommended by our cruise director. It was the most beautiful spot I have ever been. The water was just amazing.

We are leaving for the Eastern Carib Nov 7th and I am going crazy trying to decide what excursions (if any) to choose.  Did you just get off the ship and do whatever you wanted?  Or have a tour guide?  I am thinking that it seems taxi's are abundent so why not do what you did and do the shopping, sightseeing and beach without a tour guide. Any suggestions?  Also any for St Maarten?  Also I have read several posts that say Megan's beach is very crowded?

I will be in St. Thomas Dec 8th on the Dream.  You can check out this site if you are looking to do a tour on your own http://havefunwithus.net/,  You can just get in a taxi and go to Magen's Bay, cost is about $8.00 per person for the ride (oneway) and then a fee to get into the park.  The two times I have been on the Glory you can go to the service desk and they have a taxi price guide for the area and locations of other beaches that you might like.  Here is something else I have found, http://www.blackbeardscastlevi.com/.  Hope this helps

If you time allows, an excursion to nearby St. John is well worth it. The snorkeling is wonderful, the beaches pristine, and most of the island was preserved as a national park back in the 50's by an initiative from philanthropist Lawrence Rockefeller.
