I have been hearing so many bad things about Jamaica that I am thinking that me and my family might just stay on the boat at this destination. I was wanting to go to the falls and the beach but I don't want to risk getting robbed or hurt to do that. It's just not worth it. My husband and I have done the falls years ago and I wanted to take my kids (ages 15 & 17) but I am scared. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
My opinion is That as Long as You do your Excursion through Carnival there should Be no problem!!! there are Problems in alot of Places!!! we went to Honduras Roatan last year and it was great Had I listened to all the things i read and Heard I may have missed out!!! just a thought!!! Good Luck!!!

We have been several times, the people are pushy, but very friendly. Like any poor country or poor city in the US you can have trouble if you are not careful. The falls are not to be missed go and have fun.
going ashore is pretty safe. you will be hounded for money everywhere you go. if you just say no thank you and keep walking you will be ok. we just came back from there last week. we booked a tour from the ship and it was bad. we went the plantation, falls and shopping. we spent most of the time at the plantation which was very interesting. we had 30 min of shopping and only 1 hour at the falls. by the time they give you all the instructions and take all the pictures we only went less then 1/4 of the way up when we had to leave to make it back to our bus. if you want to go to the falls you could either walk or take a taxi there. it is not far from the dock and then you can also walk to the village shops and the taj mah hal they are all within walking distance form the dock. we never felt unsafe just rushed. your husband and kids may be offered some mj to buy but just keep walking and they wont follow. either way you will have fun.
Oh!!! Please go on shore!!! I've been to Jamaica twice and as people have said they are a little pushy with selling their wares, but I found the most part to be friendly. We went out on our own the first trip there and this past March we did an excursion through Carnival. Just take precaution as you would anywhere and enjoy this beautiful country.
