According to the rules, adults, which you are an adult, is not allowed to hang in the kid's rooms for safety and security.  Not that you would do anything, but you are allowed to go and gamble, go to clubs and bars (and only order soda of course) and everything else that an adult can do, while you 17 year old friend, sister or brother can not.  It is a situation that goes both ways, and you are on the boarder line, which happens alot.  You can do things they can not, and they can do things, that you are now too old for.

those 21 and over can only go into the casino and/or gamble... under 21, they will not allow you.

18 and over CAN go into the casino but they can't purchase drinks.

when we cruised in Dec. they did not allow 18 year olds into the casino for some reason, even the ones with their parents after a certain time.... now they have changed it and eased up on restrictions which I see carnival now does.

Very strange.  In 2005 my then 18 year old was allowed in the casino.  Not sure why they weren't letting them in on the Legend. Where did you sail to?  Maybe that had something to do with it.

in 2008, they had to be with parents or someone over 21. We were not on the Legend.

    Re: i have a question im 18

Somehow the question got lost.  The original point is that an 18 year old can gamble as well as go to the dance clubs on the ship per the ships policies.  They are legally, in the United States a full fledged adult, with all rights, except the ability to drink.  Carnival grants them all those 18 year olds the same rights.  However, some local laws, will prohibit an 18 year old to gamble, but not all areas, and states due it.  It varies from state to state unlike the drinking laws. However, on board a ship, it is not the "law", but rather a policy.

The answer the the original question is that an adult is not permitted to hang out with kids.  It is a very good policy, and important one.  It does create some issues, however, that is part of life, and you can not have it every way you want it.

I might also point out that although the drinking age is 21 in the US, as well as on the ship, by policy, not law, that in many of the ports that a ship will dock, it is only 18.

I hope that the 18 year old realizes that he/she is an adult, and as an adult, understand that although you are only less that a year apart, that you have so many more rights and priveledges than the "kids", and must therefore, abide by the laws, and expectations of an adult.

Just curious, did you two forget a child, albeit an eighteen year old one, asked the question? She just wanted to know if she could spend time, in a teen club, with her younger family member.  In most states she is not old enough for anything til at least 19.  In alabama she couldn't even get a checking account!  On another blog someone was telling a parent how to sneek a "not yet eighteen yr old" into the adult club.  Personally, I would rather see this girl in the teen club than the other way around. And yes, I have three children two are adults and one is fifteen. The 25yr old and 15 yr old are sailing with me next week.

I'm sorry, I still don't understand what you said.  18 year old is not a child.  They can go to war, carry a gun, sign all legal documents, have full legal charge of their life, take out loans, and be arrested, for hanging out with minor children.  No, I would rather my 18 year old hang with the adults, and leave the kid places to the kids.  Sorry, but until you accept your children are not longer children, you will not understand.  No, 19 is not a legal age, 18 is in all 50 states.  Carnival follows strict policies for a reason, and yes, you may sneak a 17 year old into a club, but on the last cruise, I saw on 3 separate occasions, the "bouncer" check id's and I was extremely impressed.  On one occasion, two young girls were sent out.

We are not here to argue this, but rather answer the simple question for the young person that answered it.  The policy, is that adults can not hang out in the kid's club, even if they are siblings involved.  I hope the 18 year olds understand the importance of reaching the "age of majority", and the importance of the responsibilities that come with it, regardless of whether, one likes it or not, or feels that it is fair.  Carnival, as well as a cruise lines, must take the necessary steps to protect themselves, and the trust, most parents place on them, to keep their kids as safe as possible.

I sincely hope Carnival, as well as the cruising industry, continues with their policies, and inforces them at all levels.
