No, when you book your cruise as a solo cruiser Carnival has your info.. The MaitreD will have a list prior to your cruise and they will assign your seat accordingly... The only difference is that when you pick the self dining.. That's another story.

No, the maitre'd will know that you are a single passenger and will try to place you at a table with other singles.

Reese Cup,  you will be just fine,  my first Solo Cruise was to Alaska.  The ship HAL

People will know you are Solo,  They just come up to you and start a conversation, which I also have a hard time with.  I had some good table mates, it was suppose to be a table for six but only a couple showed up and another older single lady, that had some  wonderful stories about her trips Solo.  I did not hang with any one , Always fentured out on my own.  But you will see the same people everyday.

I loved the fact I was in a cabin by myself, If I wanted to so something or not it was my choice.  I did eat alone for breakfast and most of the times for lunch, HAL gave a wonderful meet and greet luncheon,

I've also cruise with other people two time before,  It feels so much better in a cabin all by myself.   Have a great experience, it's all what you make it.  You didn't say were you are sailing to.

JOLIVA>how was your Alaskan Cruise Solo? see, i was born in Anchorage and i want to go on an alaskan cruise and i think this will be a solo cruise. but i think i want to go with Carnival though. i will be 50 in February and i want to celebrate my birthday on an alaskan cruise. 7-day.

I just read your post about cruising solo.  Have you decided to do it?   I have been on 2 cruises, the 1st being with family and friends, and the 2nd with my Mom.  My Mom is unable to travel now, and my husband has no interest in cruising, he will only travel by air, car or train.

I am seriously thinking about taking the plunge in 2010 and sail on RCCL Majesty again. I really enjoyed that ship. I have asked several friends to go,  but I keep getting "maybe" answers.  If I wait on friends to cruise again, it will never happen.

Are you taking the plunge and if so, what cruise line?

Today, I will be on my 7th cruise with Carnival traviling solo.  It's great and you will not feel alone.  Carnival gives a good rate for a single occupancy.  My Carnival planner is Jorge Carrasquillo.  He's great.

I will be flying to Puerto Rico and the to Carnival Victory for a 7 day cruise.

    Try it.  You'll enjoy.

I have traveled alone before and it leaves you with a bitter/sweet taste. On 1 hand you have the freedom to do what you want when you want but on the other hand you are faced with seeing other travelers that are with there groups, family and friends. Although a lot of people will tell you everyone is friendly and they are but I found it difficult to become friends with couples. Chit chat is the most I received and then moved on. Make the best of it and expect to have a good time regardless. Have you booked your trip already? I am booked for the 04/03/2010 DREAM cruise.

Re: What's it like to cruise solo?

I just got back from my 7-day cruise on the Carnival LEGEND. I went completely solo and everyone I talked to was a bit shocked that I was by myself. In contrast to nearly everyone else who has posted, I did not meet any other solo cruisers while on board or on any of the excursions I went on. I was at a big table with a group of three friends traveling together and another group of two friends who were traveling together. Even with the big age difference, the rest of my table mates being about the same age as my parents or older, it was okay.

That said, I totally enjoyed my time on the cruise. There were plenty of people who I chatted with, and one of my table mates actually found me a number of times because she knew I was traveling solo. It's basically going to be all about what you make of it.

Maybe this whole desperate single thing stems from the depths of our most primal fear, the dreaded school dance. Where dateless 15 year old girls went to hold up the gymnasium walls.  There is something nefarious about showing up single, you either smack of hussy or building inspector.  I am neither; I bet no one here is either. I am single by choice, professional, interesting and definitely not desperate.  I plan on talking to both men and women, young and old.  I would rather find a group of women to go shopping and lunch in port with than a hook up.  Gak! What stress to go on a cruise looking to meet men, I thought I was on vacation.

Less than 40 weeks to go!!  I am looking forward to going solo.  Feels good to plan MY excursions without asking what someone else wants to do and sacreficing what i want. I admit i shy at first but quick to warm up to people. This will be MY 40th Birthday vacation to me.  I cant wait!!!!
