What about Jamaica and or Grand Caymen

hi everyone my family and I are looking at a cruise going to Jamaica, Grand Caymen and Cozumel. My wife and I have been to Cozumel twice in the past but have never been to Jamaica or Grand Caymen. Can anyone give me any insight as to what these places are like? On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best what would you rate it? Thank you.

    Take me there.

The last two times we were on that cruise, we did the "canopy" or "zip line" in Jamaica, and snorkeling not too far offshore from Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville at the Grand Cayman stop.  Both were incredible and although not inexpensive, well worth the money.  I haven;t done any of the waterfall or beach activities yet, but people at our dining table said they enjoyed Dunn Falls and swimming with the stingrays.  Good luck.

I'm in total agreement with Billiken. We did the zip line and Margaritaville in Jamaica and had a blast! Some guy came by with a jet ski that we also rented for about $50 for an hour and that was a lot of fun too. My neice is a maniac, btw :) If you are a diver, you must dive in Grand Caymen. If not, the stingrays are the thing for your first trip according to our friends. Hope helps with you planning.!

Re: What about Jamaica and or Grand Caymen

My family spent two days in the Caymen Islands back in May of this year, was our first cruise, we were suppose to go to Cozumel but because of the flu we did not do that stop. We did the stingray excursion and had a great time this was so much fun I have booked another cruise for next Oct and am doing this excursion again. I would NOT reccomend doing the turtle farm, that was expensive like $65 a person and to me not worth it at  all,, not much to do or see at all there I felt like we wasted our time and money.

I felt very safe at this island, people very friendly and no one was pushy or trying to get you to come into there shop or begging you to buy something from them,, I have heard on this site that is what its like in Jamaica and mexico. In fact next time I go back I'm not booking an excursion through Carnival. There were several people waiting with posters of pictures of different excursions and their prices when you get off the ship,, they dont come up  bugging you at all,, they explain only if you approach them and the prices were ALOT CHEAPER than Carnival.

I would like to hear from other cruisers what excursions are best in Cozumel and Jamacia, we are going there next Oct. I have heard not so good things about these places and am a little skeptical. I would like to visit Doctors Cave Beach, does anyone know how far it is from the terminal in Montego Bay, is it close enough to walk to or do you need to take a cab?

If you have any other questions about Caymen Island I would be glad to try and answer them,, we had a really good time there.

Hello there, The highlight of Jamacia to me would be the Dunns River Falls, and the swimming with the dolphins... Awesome, enjoyed both alot. You get the best bang for your buck there.. The shuttles run every half hour to the ship from the site. In Cayman Island they had the Stingray and turtle farm which were cool.. I enjoyed the itenerary. I would rate it a 8-9.

In Grand Cayman, we were supposed to swim with the stingrays and had booked through Carnival and due to high wind that morning it got cancelled. The folks who booked once they got to port still got to do the excursion, and I heard later from many people that it was the most amazing thing they've ever done. Still disappointed that we didn't get to go...but hey, that just gives me an excuse to go back! ;) We ended up going to the Turtle Farm, which I loved! Something about getting to hold those sea turtles was very special to me. Then we ate (at Hard Rock, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend unless your looking to put down ALOT of cash) and shopped. All we did in Jamaica (and we stopped in Montego Bay) was ate at Margaritaville and spent the day at Doctors Cave Beach. I'd rate them both at an 8 or 9.

I did quite a bit of research of what to do in Montego Bay before we went, and this ended up being the best place I had found (according to the reviews I read). Doctors Cave Beach is quite a ways from the port. You'd want to take a taxi, we actually did the shuttle thing (Hot Spot Shuttle I think it was called), you buy a wristband for it inside the port terminal. I don't remember exactly how much it was, I wanna say like $18 a person for the day. And the reason why we did that was because it had stops (and pretty regular pick-ups as well) in front of both Margaritaville and Doctors Cave Beach and those were our 2 stops. The only bad thing was it also stopped at the craft market, first, and unless you like being taken into their shops and bartering I wouldn't recommend that.

The cost to get into Doctors Cave per person is $5. You can rent chairs, but we decided not to since we had brought our Carnival beach towels we just sat on them and I had thought there was also a charge for umbrellas as well, but they just gave us one (I've read that they are a $5 rental charge as well). They took the umbrella out to the beach, found us a spot right near the water and set us up.

There's a bar or 2 there, with drinks and food available for purchase. The waiters walk around and ask from time to time if you need anything. There are lifeguards there also. And since there is a cost to get there, the locals don't really come onto the beach selling their stuff. It's very pretty, we had a good time, and the day we were there was actually a Jamaican holiday of some sort and it was surprisingly quiet, several people there but not overpacked.

I loved Montego Bay and will definitely be going back! Any other questions, let me know :)
