    Re: teens no rules

I think it is a bit 2 sides...Carnival definately needs to beef up security after midnight and parents need to watch their children.  I believe this will not change though until it is too late and something tragic happens that will give the cruise lines a push to do so or scare the parents into watching their kids.  Maybe they should start fining the parents for the things their children do that are against the rules.

Last year on NCL we were in the atrium and we say a group of teenage boys, I would say 14-17 maybe.  The elevators on this were pretty open.  For some reason one of these idiot kids, on the second full day not to mention, decided to grab onto the elevator as it was going up and was hanging on for a good 6-7 feet above the ground.  He finally falls or jumps down, whatever it was and the kids tried to run...well there were several staff members there that literally grabbed this kid and took him to I don't know where.  As we made our first stop the following morning we saw both he and his family being escorted off the ship with all of their bags.  I asked someone about it and they said because of his behavior they were kicking them off of the ship and they get no refund and they have to pay for their own way home from the port they were kicked off in...to me, the kid deserved it...but his parents learned the hard way they should have been watching him a bit closer.  I bet they will next time.

Although harsh, he could have been killed and or killed someone else.  I think the cruise line was fair, but I also think if we had more security around the ship they wouldn't have even tried this little stunt.  It scares me as a mother the number of things that can happen to our children on these ships.  I think it is more our jobs than the cruise lines to keep them in line and out of harms way.

    Re: teens no rules

Will be cruising for the first time this January - and we have 2 teenage boys.  They are generally polite but I would say that they will join in to be part of a group and accepted.  My hope is that Carnival employees would never hesitate to redirect my kids behaviors, notifying me if there is any issue.  I won't know if no one tells me that my kids are misbehaving. I agree that there should be a curfew (2 am would allow DH & I to enjoy our time together while still being parents) & kids should not be allowed in the cabin areas without an adult.

There is a teen cruise contract our boys will be signing - see http://www.familyvacationcritic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110&page=2

    Any other good tips?

My son is 16 and will turn 17 on the ship.  He knows better and if he did do something like any of this I would still spank his butt and he would be confined to the room for the duration.  IT is the parents, not the kids.  If the parent doesn't care it wont help to do anything.

    Re: teens no rules

Hi I found this interesting I'm going on my first cruise in 2 months can't wait and there will be 6 kids wih us aged 6months 5,10,11,11 and 14 none of them require a curfew that is my job beining out till 2 in the morning not going to happen unless there is an adult around I've gone over the rules with my children and i think kids only do what they know they can get away with I plan to be doing quite a bit of drinking that does not make me a bad parent I'm an adult and can do as i please My 14 year old however would never think of getting drunk or knocking on peoples doors or screaming in hallways (me neither lol) They all know that there are the same rules when we go somewhere as there are when we are at home i agree with scubalover there butts would be pretty sore if they did something stupid and spending the duration of the cruise in the cabin wouldn't be much fun. Its not up to the cruise line to set up rules for kids thats up to parents but the sad reality is that most parents don't do there jobs I think the cruiseline is right on kicking people off that are doing dangerous things not just kids adults do stupid things to. Anyways hopefully the parents on the cruise I am on have rules for there kids as well and the cruise is fun for all involved.
