    Acessible Rooms

We have a balcony on the Carnival Valor on Dec. 6/09. I am travelling alone with my 13 year old son who uses a wheelchair. We have a balcony room. Unfortunately we were unable to secure an accessible cabin because there are only two rooms with balconies and they were already taken. We are on wait list....

Is it possible that Carnival will upgrade to a higher category with an accessible room if available? Same price? I am hoping it will work out for my son. Neither one of us can stay in a room without a window....claustophobic....

    Many thanks

Are you watching the prices for cabins on your cruise daily for a price drop which would result in a free upgrade IF you call and ask for it?

We love you Kalyn Padget and Rosie Unsworth (our lovely adopted daughters), Amy Barton, Melanie Therrien, TJ, and Rick! The Fun Crew puts the fun in Carnival Cruising! Thank you Butch for being a fantastic CD!

I've only been off the Holiday for a short time, and I'm already having fits of melancholy. I guess unless we can cruise every two months, I'll probably never be satisfied again.

Our 7 YO and 6 YO grandsons decided that they would prefer a Thanksgiving Cruise to Key West and Cozumel on the Destiny to Thanksgiving in Orlando/Kissimmee this November. We must be teaching them well. Thanks for an excuse for my booking another cruise, guys!

We went on two Norwegian Cruise Line Tramp Steamer Cruises - Thank goodness we were too busy on our honeymoon in 1978 to realize how crummy the cruise actually was - Then they ruined our 2007 Hawaii Cruise that was my retirement gift from my wife - Two chances is enough! - Never again!

Our current future dream cruise is 15 days back-to-back on the Freedom / 8-day Eastern (Fort Lauderdale) and the Valor / 7-day Western (Port of Miami) with a 45 minute private shuttle ride in between the two Fun Ships.

The price difference between an 8A and an 8G is only $90 per guest. I think I'd get a hold of my PVP and see if I could get a wheelchair accessible cabin if I paid for an upgrade anywhere within category 8 cabins. There's always a chance your price might come down later, and you can get a price reduction or some OBC.

What is the 8G? Does that still have the balcony? $90 difference is decent. I thought it was going be be hundreds of dollars....

    Thanks for the great information!

Did you ask about 8B, 8C, 8D, 8E, and 8F? They are all balcony staterooms. The letter designations are the deeper into the alphabet, the more desirable the location of the stateroom/cabin. More desirable meaning on a higher deck and/or closer to the middle of the ship. Good luck!

    Re: Acessible Rooms

I know how you feel about a room without a window. My son and I tried the regular balcony room last year and it was a living nightmare. The door was barely wide enough for his special wheelchair stroller and forget the bathroom, we had to step up into it and was not wide enough for me to carry him in to bathe him. I have to lift him from spot to spot, he has no mobility at all. I took a cruise in May on the Carnival Glory and had what they called an inside room with obstructed view, which used to be called an ocenview room. It was room 1001, We are booked on the Carnival Dream for next October and we have room 10202 which is an inside but with obstructed view. call and ask about these type of rooms. I do my booking with a TA and he knows that I can't handle a room without a window so he will book one of these type rooms for me unless I ask for him to try and get a modified balcony or suite. A balcony is nice, but there are not enough of modified ones. I hope everything works out for you and your son. Have a great cruise.
