Re: word of caution about the spa

I have had massages on cruises and came up with a little trick I use whnever I go.   If they offer a tour of the spa, check out some of the products, then if you decide to book a treatment in the section for products used put in the brand in the spa.... At end of session if they try to sell you something, tell them you purchased it on your last cruise and when it is time to reorder you choose to go to the website....  Works for me everytime... Also you will be amazed at the fact that will tell you that you have great skin!!!

Awh man! I'm so mad about this! I was planning on a massage and pedicure (I've got some tense muscles and crusty feet...lol!). But I hate being pressured, even though I can easily say no, it's just the pushy attitude and pressure that I can't stand. Guess I won't be getting a massage cuz I'm not trying to deal with all that.

We did a couples massage on the Pride and we didn't hear a single sales pitch afterward about products.  They did give my wife some nonsense about her feet being this and it means such and such....to me, I heard blah blah blah blah blah....But it was nothing bothersome at all and it lasted 30 seconds.  We had a nice relaxing massage and no pressure to follow.  It was pricey @ $229 for a 1 hour couples massage, but we knew that going in and were willing to pay it.  If you don't care about the price, do it.  Personally I wanted a massage on vacation even though I could've gotten the same massage for $65-$75 each back home.  All in all, it was worth it!  So I'm sorry to hear about the other stories, but we had a great experience at the spa.

We have had the same experience with the sales pitch. I booked my wife for a Hot Stone Massage and she enjoyed that a lot. When pushed and pushed on the expensive "products" , over $300 of stuff she finally told them she would have to ask her husband. On that they told her I was no good for inposing this on her and it was HER vacation also.  Last year when went on a 7 day Cruise on Carnival Legend I believe to Cozumel I booked a place on the island called BareFoot in Cozumel . We both got a 1 1/2 hour deep tissue massage and relaxation session for $170 for both of us. It was great , do a search for them to find Sallys web sight. Well worth it if your going to Cozumel.

Wow. I got a rude comment like that, too! My pedicure was a gift from one of the ladies in our group cruise. I was told that because my pedicure was paid for, I could afford $200 because it was for my health. Like she had any say-so on what my budget was. I let her know that she could be sabotaging her tip. Amazing. They're pushed to sell, but fail in people skills.

I don't really consider them to be very pushy.  I have cruised with Carnival 14 times, some of which I bought products and some I did not.  It's never been a problem.  If you want to get a massage, treat yourself to it!  All of the spa services are awesome!!

Re: word of caution about the spa

Just got back from the Pride a few weeks ago and treated myself, my daughter and her BFF to massages (got pretty good embarkation and port day pricing..   :p)  and never got a sales pitch.  They were so wonderful in the SPA and took really great care of us.   However, with that said, had a massage on the Fascination back in 2006 and they did bring in items for sale.  I must say I did buy the lot but then had a change of heart and took it all back.  They refunded my S&S no problem.  I guess it may depend on whether or not the SPA personnel are getting pressured by Steiner to sell sell sell.
