Confused [*-)] St. Thomas- Ultimate Island Experience Excursion

OK so we are going to St. Thomas.  I pretty much had decided on Sunny Liston till I read that you get back to the ship at 4-4:30.  This ship leaves at 5:00 Not good.  So I e-mailed him and he said that he could adjust the times.  However I also found Carnival has a new Excursion "Ultimate Island Experience"  it sounds really good too however it is $50 compared to Sunny's $25 and "This excursion ends downtown.  Guests are responsible for their return transportation to the ship.  Tour duration depends upon your personal touring and shopping time."  That makes me nervous.  Does anyone know how far it is from downtown St. Thomas back to the ship?  Is it within walking distance or would it require a taxi and thus additional costs?  The other thing is having to pay in advance and giving my cc # I don't like that.  If I book Carnival I feel safer.  I am a dinosaur.  I like to talk to PEOPLE and not conduct my $ business online. So has anyone been on this particular excursion through Carnival?

i have the same problem. i want to do the sunny liston tour but it gets back at 4:30, that is cutting it close. the ships  drops you downtown that is worst because u dont know how far downtown is from the dock, at least sunny tour will bring u back to the dock

I e-Mailed Sunny and asked him about it and he said " No you don't have to skip the beach.  We will adjust the time to get you back to the ship earlier." Also someone told me that downtown is NOT close to where the ship docks.  They said it is probably 30-45 min walk so it would require a taxi at maybe $6.00 per person.  So we would be adding $6 to $50 with Carnival. With Sunny it is just $25 per person period.  I do hate paying over the internet though.

No problem.  We are going in Oct as well, the week of Halloween.  We have already booked Cosol for St. Lucia.  Guess we will have to book Sunny soon.  There are two ships in St. Thomas that day, so more people.

We leave on July 12 and had lots of trouble trying to decide what tour to do in St Thomas. We ended up reserving a rental car. We figure for the 80 bucks for the car we can do whatever we want and don't have to worry about getting back to the ship on time because we are the drivers. We can also go to the beach and explore the island at our leisure. We are considering renting scooters on Antiguq and St Kitts because none of the excursions have appealed to us. all of the other excursions we booked through the ship for the security of knowing if anything happens they will wait for us.

We got a tour for $15/ pp and the island is so small we drove it all in 2 1/2 hours. Just got with a taxi driver at the port. Get a big group together and you will get a good rate

Hi, My wife and I were in St. Thomas aboard the Carnival Glory last October and had a great time.  We are going back on the Victory in September this year.  The best way to get back to the ship is the water taxis.  They are inexpensive, you catch them right in town (beach front) and takes about 7-10 minutes to get back to the ship.  Beats the heck out of a 30 minute walk after a busy day.  And ladies, don't forget to check out Mr. Tablecloths for some great shopping and guys, GREAT rum punch about half way down the strip and then down a side street/alley towards the waterfront.  Real nice open air bar in the middle of the street and the absolutly best rum punch in town.
