My 19 yr old daughter would like to go clubbing on deck.Are 19 yr olds allowed to drink on board?

we were aboard the glory last december with our 20 yr old daughter. as we're from the uk where drinking age is 18 we have no problem with her drinking in moderation. We found that on the islands no one asked for id and she got served a beer without any hassel.

She didn't expect to drink on board as US rules apply (21 min age) but tbh if we ordered 3 drinks the waiters made a point of delivering them to the us the parents and it was left to our discretion if she par-took.

If we ordered wine in the formal dining room the wine waiter checked with us and then poured for her too.

We didn't expect to break any rules and we certainly wouldn't condone drunken teenagers rollicking around the ship.

 I can only pass on what happened for us.

Hope this gives you some idea of what to expect but all ships may not be so liberal.

My 18 year old twins were kicked out of every bar on the Conquest with the exception of the piano bar (the music was "boring").  As long as I was with them, they were okay, but to answer you question, the official drinking age is 21 on the ship.

Well, actually, you did break the rules.  You served an underage minor. 

Most states have "parental authority" exceptions to the 21 age limit -- I recall 38 of the 50 having these.  Additionally, many states have religious or private club exceptions.

What you canNOT do is serve someone else's kids.  Serving your own is up to you.

...in the states.  On board the ship, though, Carnival can get into boatloads of trouble with underage drinking.

No joke, my Dad says that he could drink beer in Virginia legally at age 16. ( the 70's)

At age 18 he could drink " high test" and in fact as a serviceman during the Vietnam War had no problem getting served anywhere, in the U.S. or overseas.

They even had a big deal over old enought to die for your country, old enough to drink.

I guess we could roll things back to the Prohibition days, seems like that is where it seems some groups would have us go. Of course back then, they didn't need alcohol as much.  Half the population was taking cocaine in some sort of way, either through additives in soft drinks or health elixirs.

Then cruising would be even more popular, because once in open water the bars would open right up.

I think(I am 53) that the drinking age should be lowered to 18.If the government thinks you are mature enough to fight for this country,and mature enough to vote,why don't they think you are mature enough to drink?I do agree that some aren't mature enough to handle their alcohol,but.....maturity doesn't come with age.I have seen too many  "older folks" that AREN'T mature enough to drink.

US laws drinking laws do not apply to cruise ships since they are not under US registry.  The rules are set up by the cruiseline itself.  In my state, NY, the drinking age is 21 period.  No exceptions under any conditions.  If someone turns you in you can get into trouble for serving even your own kids in your own home.

I don't believe most 18 year olds (not all) have the ability to make qualified decisions about drinking or defending one's country.  I think the age limit for both should be 21.

She is old enough to go into the clubs but you have to be 21 to drink....

 

One of the issues we were discussing in this thread is the driniking age onboard.  A lot o fthe ports, it is 18, so she could go clubbing and also be served.  Onboard the ship, it is 21 years old.  She can not drink alcoholic beverages onboard.  Since some of the clubs, have strict rules, many of them that do serve alcohol request minors out of the clubs after 10:30 p.m. if they are not accompanied by an adult over 21.
