    conquest - eastern carribean

My husband and I (55 - old people) are going to Key West, Freeport, and Nassau 07/12/09. Are any of those ports tendered?  We haven't been to any of these - Key West looks like a blast.  Any suggestions on what people our age might like to do at the other ports?  We don't want to waste time.  My husband is afraid of heights and doesn't like going very deep in the water.  I LOVE shopping of course.

Also, the other times we sailed on the Conquest - I saw people having afternoon tea.  He wouldn't go, but I like tea.  Price?  Where might I find info on the website?

    Please advise,

    Paige

In Feb 09 the wife and I took an island tour ending at the priates of Nassau, personaly liked it.  Comment on shopping, stores don't open untill 9-9:30 am, close generally 5-5:30PM.

There's no additional cost for the afternoon tea.  I go sometimes, but my only issue is it's usually at the same time as the art auction and I'd MUCH rather have free champagne than free tea!!

Oh yeah, just WTF do you mean by 55 = Old People?????  WE'RE not old people, we're just getting started!!  I LOVE being this age - MUCH more freedom that when I was younger!

    what is "tendered"?

Either basted in Adolph's, or you anchor out in the water and in order to get ashore you have to climb aboard a small boat, called a tender, which pulls up along side the ship, and it will take you to the dock.

Oh that would be "cool"...I like little boats...but oh well...I guess it's nice to just get off the ship to tour too.

     Thanks for the info.Smile

Believe me, it's anything BUT "cool" - waiting in line in a low deck corridor for a few people at a time out of the 2500 or so on board to load those little boats - I'll take a pier ANY day over a tender!

You have to hurry and get your ten cruises in. That way you get to leave the ship first to get the first tender.

We love you Kalyn Padget and Rosie Unsworth (our lovely adopted daughters), Amy Barton, Melanie Therrien, TJ, and Rick! The Fun Crew puts the fun in Carnival Cruising! Thank you Butch for being a fantastic CD!

I've only been off the Holiday for a short time, and I'm already having fits of melancholy. I guess unless we can cruise every two months, I'll probably never be satisfied again.

Our 7 YO and 6 YO grandsons decided that they would prefer a Thanksgiving Cruise to Key West and Cozumel on the Destiny to Thanksgiving in Orlando/Kissimmee this November. We must be teaching them well. Thanks for an excuse for my booking another cruise, guys!

Afternoon tea is free. I only like tea a little, but the pastries were awesome.

You can check on shore excursions here on Carnival.com at the home page. I'm a 62 yo guy, and I loved the Dolphin Encounter in Freeport; so did my 7 and 6 yo grandsons.

My 2 cents on tendering is that it's tough.  I'm not a frail little woman and can take my share of handling bumpy rides, but the tenders can be extremely rough rides.  The only tender I was on was in Grand Cayman.  The waters were so rough that day that people (including me) were being thrown against the walls of the boats and were bruised.  But the rest of the time in GC more than made up for it!

I'm trying, really I am!!!  This %)$& economy has really messed with my cruising schedule!!  DH was out of work from last August until this May and it's a struggle to just keep up with the bills and catch up on some things that we needed to let slide AND our lawn tractor died and we need a new one of those (3 acre yard to mow - hard to push and hold down a job at the same time)!!

Means the ship can't dock at the pier. They use boats aka tenders to take you into to the dock/port.

There is lots to see/do in Key West. We have walked to all the different shops and dock activities. There are lots of locals/street entertainers there. You can also pay to tour via trolley too. The key lime pie dipped in chocolate is a must while your there. My husband (49) and I (45) and girls (19) will be on the ship too. Brenda
