    cell phones & laptops

Will the cell phone and my laptop work on the ship?

Cell phone may or may not work, plus it's very expensive unless you have international calling.  Laptop should not have a problem with.  But I'll tell you once on board, you'll forget about home, and work.  (Unless you have young kids.)  Go and have a ball.

Can I use my cell phone on the ship? Yes, cell phone service is available on all ships in the Carnival fleet. While your ship is at sea, the cellular system is activated and you can make and receive calls, send and receive text messages, as well as view emails and browse the Internet with over 300 carriers worldwide. International roaming rates apply and are set and billed by your home carrier. Charges will appear on your regular cell phone bill. Please contact your carrier before your cruise to check rates for each service and ensure your plan allows you to roam. For more information, visit www.cellularatsea.com.

There is wireless internet available, but whether you can get it in your cabin depends on which ship.  The link in the post above gives a good list.

I think the cell phone question has been adequately answered.

Like at least $2.49 a minute plus tax if you are US-based subscriber calling back to the US - even if you are right off the US coast but are on the network provided by the ship (happened to me 5 miles off Catalina Island).

We were on the Holiday a couple of weeks ago.  We had made arrangements before leaving to use our cellphones.....had international calling activated.  When the lady "fell overboard" I tried to contact both my children so they would know that I was safe.  I could not make a call out to either of them.  So don't count on your cell phone working even though you have planned to use it and contacted your carrier.

As far as the international calling is concerned, that only comes into play when you're on land in the foreign ports.  While at sea, you're using the ship's tower and they can charge you whatever they want for that use.  The at sea charge for cell phone usage, from what I've seen regardless of carrier, is somewhere around $2.95 per minute.
