    Disembarkation Transportation.

We will be traveling on the Spirit in January 2010.  When we return how difficult is it to get a cab at the pier?  We could get Carnival provided transportation but at $32 it seems to be a little costly.  For the 3 of use that would be $96 for a 10 minute drive.  A cab would be faster and cheaper IF we could get one.  I am afraid there is going to be a mad rush for Cabs when everyone gets off the ship.  Thanks for any input.

    Jake,

The cabs are lined up at the street waiting.  The airport is only down the road so the fare shouldn't be much.

Are you all coming in before the cruise?

If you want to email me your address by clicking on my profile, I will pick up some of those flyers with maps etc.. of the san diego area. Or, you can email me at the address I sent the pictures from.

Thank you very much for your kind offer. The plan is to arrive in San Diego the day before and stay at the Holiday Inn across from the pier. We are from Northern California so we have been to San Diego before and we do not really plan to be doing any touring. Maybe a nice dinner somewhere. Mr. A's is always a favorite. Thanks again for the pictures and your offer of touring materials. Jake

There are plenty of cabs.  You don't have to pay anything close to $32.  I think I paid $12 to go to the airport.

A cab or shuttle is the way to go (depending upon the number of people/amount of baggage).  There are a lot of them staged at the terminal.

    LoL...4bolts you are too modest.

We received of a great deal of good information from your posts regarding the port of SD and its surrounding areas.  So in essence, you are one of our "resident" SD experts (guru's), whenever we travel there. Smile

I could probably go on and on until you were sick of hearing it. We hardly ever do anything here but don't mind driving hundreds of miles to do basically the same thing in a different city. Hmmm, anaheim sounds good along with a trip to disneyland.

I keep hoping that I will have visitors so I can take them to all the places we wouldn't normally go to.

If you are talking about getting to and from the the airport to the pier and don't have loads of luggage take the city bus.  You can see the ship from the airport.  I believe the cost was somewhere around $2.50 a person and you catch the bus in front of the airport.

Hope you have a wonderful time, I live in Los Angeles and I've traveled 6 times to San Diego to catch my cruises.....much better taxi, shuttle and parking than Los Angeles.  Also I really appreciated the easy customs exit.   I also have one of the guys help me with my luggage and they usually flag a cab for me..I'm an older woman so I can't walk 3 blocks with my luggage.  I'm not flying, I'm on Amtrak with no luggage restrictions, the train station is 3 blocks away.
