    Re: Room Location

I had the "pleasure" (NOT) of having a cabin on the Riveria deck on a 4 day cruise and it was a serious mistake. Those cabins are the less expensive ones and usually where all the young folks hang out.  There were drunken folks staggering through the corridors at all hours of the night/morning.  Even in during the day, it seemed they ran up and down the corridors, talking and laughing at the top of their lungs! It was aweful. I would never reserve a room down there even if it was lower priced.  I have had oceanview and interior cabins, but I always spring for the extra $20 and get a cabin on the higher decks at least Upper deck.

Regina, your post is a perfect analogy of why I won't ever book a cabin on Riviera or main deck again. I made that mistake once, and will never do it again.

Empress deck is my wife and my choice. It's sandwiched between 2 cabin decks so there is no noise, and it's closer to Lido deck.

I understand now.  On my first cruise, I booked a cabin on the second lowest deck and had no such problems, but if you feel that's the case, then you book where you feel you must.  As for me, I'll save my money until I see the problem for myself.  Frankly, from both of my previous cruises, I think the drunks are interspersed all over the ship.

Well now I'm concerned.  When I booked my first cruise which is almost 3 weeks away I had no idea that the Riviera deck housed the 'less expensive' rooms and that is what we got for four of us.  I wasn't going for 'economical', I wanted an awesome cabin.  Why do they give us the cheap room when we didn't want that and I saw nothing that explained the different categories/room quality.  We booked way back in March so could have had the pick of what we wanted.

The room you have isn't an economical room by any means. The cost factor goes something like this.... the lower you stay in the boat, the cheaper the cabin. The actual room itself whether it be inside or ocean view, will be EXACTLY the same as far as interior looks goes as a cabin on a higher deck. The reason we prefer a cabin on Empress deck is that we are closer to Lido deck there and also, as mentioned in an earlier post, because the lower cabins are cheaper, that is where the younger kids book which means noise noise noise... at least that's been our experience.

Well this thread sure proves that opinions are like belly buttons, we all have one.  Different people will have different opinions which cabins to book.  Within categories they are pretty much the sameweither it is an inside, oceanview, balcony or suite.

Actually we prefer midship close to the elevator.  We have never been bothered by young folks or people that have had too much to drink.  Maybe we were on of them.  It is better to party anyway.

Might wanna try the stairs once in a while. It IS healthy afterall. Too much chocolate melting cake will kill you dead!

We have never been bothered by young folks or people that have had too much to drink.  Maybe we were on of them.

Nothing wrong with young folks partying, or anyone for that matter, but when it gets to where they are in and out of cabins with doors slamming and very loud talking in the hallways at 3am, that's just unacceptable behavior and quite rude to other paying guests. If this were to occur in a hotel room, these people would be evicted. Why is it ok on a cruise ship, which IS a floating hotel for this to be acceptable?

I understand you say you have never experienced it.. good for you... a LOT of us have!

Remember the worst cabin on a cruise beats the best accomdations at home.

You are correct with your statement about opinions being like body parts.. everyone has them.. but the more famous saying about opinions and body parts and everyone having one applies very well here.... CIAO!

    Re: Room Location

We prefer to be a bit off the beaten path.  I enjoy a good party just like most, but when I'm ready to stop partying and rest up for the next party, I want to do that.  My experience with the Riveria deck wasn't pleasant.  I had an oceanview, midship and right across the hall was a cabin full of 21 year old young men.  In fact, the cabins all along that corridor were young folks.  We were "welcomed" by them all in their Carnival bathrobes, drink in hand.  We knew it wasn't going to be quiet.  We survived, but it took a little "relationship building" with them.  My guy went over and introduced himself. It helped. It worked, but I will never book on the Riveria deck if at all possible.

Great breakdown, so a 6A category can be on any deck, not just one deck.  You could be 6A on Riviera, Empress, etc. Right?

That is correct.  You can go to the Carnival.com web site and look at the deck plans and see the room locations.

    Incorrect data...

A 6A cabin is a riviera deck ocean view cabin at the front  of the ship on Holiday. NO other deck has a 6A cabin listed!

Out of curiosity, then...what does the higher deck do for you?

The way I understand it the higher up in the ship you go the more you pay and the more you sway.

Other than that you are just on a different floor. An inside cabin on the Riviera should be the same as an inside cabin on any other floor.
