    phone cards and intercom

Have any of you used a phone card from the ports lately? Before cell phones were so popular I used to use them to make my long distance phone calls in port. They look like a credit card and contain x amount of minutes. I thought I saw some pay phones on our last cruise that said they were not accepted but not sure.   What does anyone know about this - do they work?

Also is there any way to get the ship's intercom to work in your room or better yet on your balcony?  I hate running to the door to stick your head out every time someone official has something to say. Thanks.

I am not sureabout the pay phones in port.

The ship's announcements are only in the PUBLIC areas of the ship. So that is why you have to open your door to hear the announcements.

Depends on the ship.  You can have the intercom on in your room on some of the newer ships, but not the older ones.
