I have brought wine to the dining room and asked them to chill it for that night.  They did that and the waiter opened for dinner that night. I wasn't charged.  It may be something the waiter has to do for a charge to be assessed.  They work for tips and that may be why it was done.  Since Carnival states they can charge a corking fee it is still an option.  I don't know of anyone actually being charged. I suppose if a cruiser is rude, obnoxious, and abusive they would be charged in nanosecond.

My wife took the bag of Franzia wine out of its box, put it in a canvas bag, which we simply placed in the scanner in the terminal. It was like carrying a large bladder around with you! Nobody did or said anything about it. We kept it in the cabin where we dispensed it in glasses and carried them around the ship with us. I think we had some of it remaining at the end of the cruise, which we took home the same way.

This is definately a plus that RCCL nor NCL have, you can't bring any liquor or wine onboard with them.  I am not a huge wine drinker but I do enjoy a nice bottle in the supper clubs the 2 nights that we go.  The bottles that I bought last year on RCCL cost me a little over $50 each and it was pretty good so I thought I would see if my local liquor store had it and they did for $24.  So I am excited since we are doing the steakhouse 2 times on our cruise that I can buy 2 bottles and bring them onboard and pay less than I would for one. 

I wonder if they are more strict about the corkage fee in steakhouse?
