Cruising this weekend ... ?'s about what 2 do in Yucatan

     Hello!!!

Our family (me, hubby, and 15-year-old boy/girl twins) will be cruising to Progreso/Cozumel in just a couple of days!  Woo-hoo!!!

Our plans for Mexico include: shopping (silver jewelry for me!), a beach, and snorkeling.  I am wondering where are the best places (between Progreso and Cozumel) to do these things?  Here are my ?'s:

Is the shopping better in Cozumel or Progreso? (as I said, I am particularly interested in sliver jewelry)

Should I schedule our snorkeling excursion in Cozumel or Progreso? (which is better?)

Which port offers the better beach?

What IS there to do in Progreso?????Tongue Tied

I would appreciate any suggestions!! Thanks in advance!!

    Debbie

Cozumel, hands down.  Or hands up, for that matter.

Should I schedule our snorkeling excursion in Cozumel or Progreso?

I'm not much of a sknorkler, but my guess would be Cozumel.

Which port offers the better beach?

The "best" is dependent on a lot of things.  The closest would be Progresso.  It's right where they'll drop you off of the pier bus.  To the left, if I recall correctly.  Cozumel has several beaches, with many playtoys to rent, but they're all a cab ride away.

Both places will probably have beach bars and buffets, but I only know that Cozumel does for certain.

What IS there to do in Progreso?

Look around and note how fabulously lucky you are that you have consistent electricity, indoor plumbing and fairly reliable sanitation.

Slow down, grab a beer and a taco at one of the little cantinas.

Find a local to talk with [this can go in conjunction with the first item].

I found the cheaper clothes in Progresso, if you want some Mexican/Maya-style clothing.

Grab the bus into Merida, and there's much better shopping there.

Just plunge into another country's culture for a portion of a day.

Desperately seeking 10th cruise for the free laundry.
