    Alternative Parking in San Diego

We've paid $15.00 a day for the convenience of parking directly across from the pier for short cruises. However, our next cruise is 8 days and the idea of paying $120.00 is not good.  Has anyone used the alternative $7.00 to $8.00 a day lots in the pier area?  Is it convenient? Not waiting a horribly long time for their shuttles?  Safe?

    Hi,

Go to the departing cities and click on San Diego. I posted the prices of some of them and the ones that have coupons or discounts. If you can't find it I'll look later on today.

We park our vehicles in a park n ride when leaving San Diego for a few days. There are people there 24/7 and have had no problems.

There usually is a shuttle right there to take you to the pier. When you return you just call their number and they send a shuttle right over to you.

If you have military base access, North Island has a parking area for extended times. The cab ride is about 22.00 each way to the airport so the pier should be cheaper. We also park here for extended trips.

Diane, do you know if they charge a fee at the military base for daily parking?

No they don't. If you park at North Island they have a 30 day site to park at. The FISC building has parking too but I will have to ask about that parking. I don't know if that is for active, civilian, or anyone with a sticker. How long is the cruise you are planning? You can email me too by clicking on my name.

It's the 8 day cruise to Acapulco, Manzanillo and Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo. My husband and I are on a pretty tight budget, so we are trying to find the least expensive means of parking, but still at a safe place.

Well if you have a military sticker you can park there at NI. The cab fare would be approx. 25 dollars from the base. It could be less since thats the price to the airport I just paid. That would still save you 30-40 dollars since the parking lots charge you a full day whether or not you leave early.

The only other options are the park and rides where we use to leave our car. I had a list of places that offered discounts to AAA and to military and I'll send it on Monday. The most expensive one is right across from the pier. I won't have a chance to find out about the FISC parking until next week.

or you could drop your luggage off, drive over and park, walk a mile to the ferry and take that across. Get you a chance to see the residential street of coronado and the shops by the ferry.
