    First Time Cruising Solo

I am trying to plan a trip on the Splendor Aug. 9 - 16 for my birthday and before I have to get back to the grindstone of teaching.  I have asked everyone that I know and no one can go with me.  I am considering just going by myself.  This would be the first time that I have not gone with anyone else.  I was hoping that people who have done this could let me know about their experience and if I should consider going by myself.

If I were you, I'd go myself.  Check the message boards like this one and Cruise Critic and make some friends early.  Ceck out the Monkeyhead Wasters Club or other boards for groups looking to sail together and you'll have an instant group of friends ready to go.  I like traveling myself, athough I haven't done a cruise by myself, I have traveled to Australia and Thailand on my own.  I am also thinking of cruising alone in Europe next year.

    First Time Cruising Solo

    Jacquelyn,

Most of my Cruises has been Solo/Single.

A Cruise is easy as a Solo.

    The only time you are

    alone is when you

    are in your cabin.

    It's sooo nice having a

    cabin alone.....

    Carnival is good sitting

    Solos/Singles together

    in the Dining Room..

    Sometimes your table mates

    maybe sisters Cruising

    together,or Sons & Dads,

or nieces & aunts or friends

    or even teachers.....

    I am going in Sept.

    It's my B-day Cruise.

    Also it's a BTBTB..

    Go have a great time..

    Re: First Time Cruising Solo

Thank you both for the good advice.  I will definately post on the message boards.  I'm glad to hear that Carinival is good about seating solo guests at dinner.  That makes me feel a little better.

I now just have to get my mom to let me go on the cruise by myself.  She is worried about my safety.  I told her she needs to go with me then.  But still no such luck.  Oh well, I'll just keep trying.

I can relate to you. My mom was worried when I went on my first solo cruise. I assured her that although I was going alone, I would not be alone. I also gave her the pros and cons of a cruise versus a road trip. The pros of the cruise won out. You don't have to worry about driving long hours to different destinations, on shore excursions you are with other cruisers. The best of all... You meet the nicest people who look out for you.

I say go and enjoy yourself.. I go at least twice a year.

    Pam

    Re: First Time Cruising Solo

    Hello there Jacquelyn,

Im sure you could appreciate the nice responses that you have recieved. I have been on 2 cruises now with my 3rd coming up in November. The first 2 were solo cruises for me, and I will tell you that cruising solo is a great route to go. I thought initially that I wouldn't like it, you know being all by myself on that ship not knowing anyone. I was seated at my dinner table of 5 others who also were solo cruisers. We had so much fun getting to know one another.. Not to mention that when you are on a cruise, you come in contact with others from all over the world... Also, on my first cruise, during the Munser drill I ran into a couple friends that I hadn't seen in about 5 yrs... We used to be in a linedancing group together... You never know who you may run into... I applaude Carnival in their efforts to seat solo cruisers with like cruisers. You will have an awesome time.

    Hi Jacquelyn,

I have been on 4 cruises.  2 of them I took alone and 2 of them I went with other people.  The cruises I went on alone have been my favorites by far!  It is nice to be able to do your own thing without worrying about the schedule of other.  Carnival is awesome at setting you up at a dinner table with other singles.  In fact Mojo (posted above) and I met on our first cruise alone and had a fantastic time!   I have also met amazing people on shore excursions, playing bingo or at any of the deck activities.  Take advantage of the oppotunity to go alone Jacquelyn.  You won't regret it!

You should do it.  I went on a cruise without my family, I had a roomate but I did my own thing.  Now don't get me wrong the people I traveled were fun but, I am using to my own friends and family. Plus everyone on the ship are friendly. Trust me you will have fun. In Feb of 2010 I have already book a cruise and I am going by my self.

    Re: First Time Cruising Solo

I impulsively booked a solo cruise for myself a few days ago. Between the price of the cabin and the cheap airfare I couldn't turn it down. My partner can't get off work so I am just taking some alone time. It is only 13 days away and I am very excited about it. At first I felt a bit odd, but I do enjoy my alone time. The more I think about it the more I realize how relaxing it can be.
