    Nassau advice

Hi guys!  I will be sailing on the Fascination on August 3rd on my 10th cruise (7th with Carnvial).  One of the stops is Nassau.  I have been there once before and went to Atlantis.  We do not want to go there again.  I was going to book the Blackbeard's Beach treasure hunt thing but have heard negative things off of this forum and so have scratched that idea. Not seeing any other excursion that is really catching my eye. I have seen some ppl post about the day pass to the British Colonial Hilton.  We are now leaning towards doing that.  I was just wondering if someone who has been recently can give me their opinion.  I have gone to the website and it looks beautiful but also says that at the time we will be there they will be doing some maintanence to the bar and restaurant are. I would really appreciate input from anyone who has been recently or will be going before my sail date. Or if you have any other suggestions. Thanks a lot! This forum is great.

I leave on the sensation July 5th.  We too are planning a visit to BC Hilton in Nassau because of all the nice things I read here. I'll let you know if they are true next month. If anyone out there has been there recently lets hear from you?

HI Terri!  Have you heard anything about the Wyndham/Sheraton property?  I read about it on a different forum after and it sounds like it may be a little more our style.  Still not decided on exactly what to do.  Please let me know about your experience when you get back.  I will be anxiously awaiting your report!!  Have a blast on your cruise! It will be here before you know it.

    Re: Nassau advice

DH and I actually stayed at Sheraton Cable beach a few years ago. A very nice property. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and call Nassau tomorrow during the day and ask the Hilton about their day passes. All I'm looking for is a nice/safe beach to lay on for a few hours. I thought I wanted to go to Atlantis, but my daughter stayed there recently and said it really was no big deal, not for the money they want for a day pass, and that the beach was lousy.  We'll see what happenes tomorrow, what I find out.

    Re: Nassau advice

The Wyndham day passes are supposed to be $40 and include a buffet meal and access to the Sheraton property.  Was thinking the DJ, pools, slide, etc might keep us a little more entertained.  And my dad will be thrilled about the casino access.  We did Atlantis a few years ago.  This was before they had the waterpark and I was not entirely impressed.  Beach was nothing to write home about.  Wouldn't go there for that amount of money unless maybe you really wanted the water park aspect.  If you call the Hilton you may also want to ask about the upcoming rennovations and what will be affected, although I'm sure they will tell you it will be fine.

Called British Colonial Hilton directly and they sell day passes at front desk. $20.00 per adult coveres beach, pool, towels, and loungechairs, they said some ships sell passes to them that also include lunch but not just when you walk in the door yourself.  Anyone see that excursion offered  on Carnival?

Where is this hotel/beach in relation to the Atlantis? We are doing the dolphin encounter and I have just been told that while it includes access to the beach you can't go in the water! How dumb is that? So I am looking for a beach to go to afterwards but don't want to waste time wandering around trying to figure out how to get there.  I have also read about Cabbage beach. Any advice or info?

    Re: Nassau advice

Well, Atlantis is on Paradise Island which you take a water taxi to.  The BCH is right near the pier where the ship docks so you could always do it as you "head back" to the ship.  I think the Wyndham is a couple of blocks from there.  I have also seen a lot of people refer to a beach next door to Atlantis that has $20 coconuts that you buy for all you can drink.  I have also heard that the water is very rough there as it is on the Atlantic side.  If you want a pretty beach with calmer water you are probably better off coming back near ship, but of course the choice is yours. Maybe you can check out the Atlantis or  nearby beach and then decide if you would like to stay there or head back.

No Terri, I have not seen Carnival offer that as an excursion.  I am pretty sure they do not.  Did they mention anything about the rennovations they are doing?

The Wyndham/Sheraton hotels are at Cable Beach.  They are a taxi ride away from pier.  I stayed at the Raddison there a few years ago, then they sold it to Sheraton.  The beach was ok, I think it was colder water in April and I used the pool much more. loved the hotel.

Don't be sorry, we will probably go take a look at it when we get off the boat and then decide if we want to stay there or head over to the Wyndham.  And of course I will wait and see what you have to say about it when you get back.

    Re: Nassau advice

I had exactly the same questions when I went to Nassau last August. I looked at the Sheraton, the Hilton, and Cabbage Beach. While Cabbage beach sounded nice, I wanted to swim and they warned that the water is a little rough and there's a pretty good drop off a little ways out. Sheraton was $40 for the pass, and the BCH was $20. We also looked at an excursion on Carnival for the all-inclusive resort on the island that was 5hrs long, and it included all food, drinks, and facilities. I also found out that you can get that same pass through the resort for only $50 and you get like 8hrs instead of 5, and it's cheaper than through Carnival.

We ended up going to the BCH. You just walk in, ask about a day pass, and it was $20 to use their private beach and pool. They give you towels, and there's a little stand to the side that rents snorkel gear for $5. FYI, their bar drinks are pricey though. I got a can of a local beer (Kalik) that cost $5. At least it was good beer. :D

    Re: Nassau advice

Well. just got back yesterday,  What can I tell you  about Nassau.  We went shopping in morning, but someone else in our party went to Hilton to 'check it out' while we planned to go there after lunch. They found out it's been raised to $40.00 per person. no smaller amount for our 5 year old.  That gets you a 30 dollar food/beverage credit. So it's only 10 for the beach.  Which wasn't so nice anyway.  Half our group took a water taxi to Atlantis and walked to the free beach next door, the rest of us stayed on the ship and laid out at the pool.

    Hope this helps.
