    Which Disney Park?

Hello. We will be stopping at Cape Canaveral, FL on our cruise. It is just my husband and I. We want to go to one of the Walt Disney World Parks, but do not know which one...Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios. The cruise is in January, so no water park weather I'm sure! We are in our young 20's and both have not been to Disney World. Which one would be best for us? Recommend/not recommend....Thanks

    Re: Which Disney Park?

This really depends upon what your interests are.  If you like thrill rides, we think Hollywood Studios.  The Twilight Tower of Terror and Rock-n-Rollercoaster are awesome.  However, Animal Kingdom is my favorite becasue I love the animals.  Plus, Everest is an amazing thrill ride as well.  The parade at Animal Kingdom is also my favorite parade at Disney.  Epcot is huge and has a lot to do and see.  I would say that Soarin' at Epcot is a MUST DO!!  It is, in my opinion, the best ride at Disney.  Magic Kingdom makes me feel like a kid again and has lots of rides as well, but I would say is more for the little kids.  Research the parks to find what you like the most, and take in the opinions of the people on the board.

I would change my plans and go to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure instead. They have GREAT coasters (the Mummy and the Hulk will take your breath away) and fantastic special effects in Spiderman and other rides in IOA. You can do both parks for the same price as one Disney park. It's a short 10 minute (about a half mile or less) walk between the two parks. They also have better food for your $$$ than WDW parks. We go to Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee each year for Thanksgiving. We do two days at WDW, three days at Universal/IOA, and a day at SeaWorld. My kids are in their twenties, and they prefer IOA to WDW. Our 7 yo & 6 yo grandsons outgrew the Magic Kingdom except for Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain Railroad in a hurry. You'd have to park hop and do the Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and a few parts of the Magic Kingdom to get as much fun in one day as Universal Studios/IOA. Have a great cruise!

Only four days and 1.5 hours until dinner on the Pride. Yay!

    Paradise

We love you Kalyn Padget and Rosie Unsworth (our lovely adopted daughters), Amy Barton, Melanie Therrien, TJ, and Rick! The Fun Crew puts the fun in Carnival Cruising! Thank you Butch for being a fantastic CD!

I've only been off the Holiday for a short time, and I'm already having fits of melancholy. I guess unless we can cruise every two months, I'll probably never be satisfied again.

Our 7 YO and 6 YO grandsons decided that they would prefer a Thanksgiving Cruise to Key West and Cozumel on the Destiny to Thanksgiving in Orlando/Kissimmee this November. We must be teaching them well. Thanks for an excuse for my booking another cruise, guys!

We went on two Norwegian Cruise Line Tramp Steamer Cruises - Thank goodness we were too busy on our honeymoon in 1978 to realize how crummy the cruise actually was - Then they ruined our 2007 Hawaii Cruise that was my retirement gift from my wife - Two chances is enough! - Never again!

Our current future dream cruise is 15 days back-to-back on the Freedom / 8-day Eastern (Fort Lauderdale) and the Valor / 7-day Western (Port of Miami) with a 45 minute private shuttle ride in between the two Fun Ships.

    Re: Which Disney Park?

If you will be there for a full day, I would recommend getting a park-hopper ticket to 2 parks. Spend a couple of hours at Magic Kingdom just to see the castle and the characters. Then finish up on the Tower of Terror and other rides at Hollywood Studios. Magic Kingdom is the true essence of Disney. Hollywood Studios has good rides and is probably more appealing to younger people (I'm not much older than you and enjoyed it last year). Animal Kingdom was surprisingly enjoyable when I went last year - you can get good views of the animals on the safari ride. I haven't been to Epcot since I was a kid, so can't give you much to go on there. If you have a full day to spend, you can hit at least 2 parks.

    Re: Which Disney Park?

We've done them all. But only one per vacation in FL.

If you want leave having experienced the Disney magic, I would suggest sticking to the Magic Kingdom.  Since you haven't been there before, you can certainly spend an entire, full, day there without feeling you're dragging it out.  If you attempt to visit two or more parks in one day, I am sure you will leave feeling you missed something.

The "park hopper" is really better only if you been there before, and want to just focus on the features you liked.

    Re: Which Disney Park?

We will be stopping there in March on our cruise also.  I have been to all the parks but boyfriend has not.  I wish they gave you the option to do the downtown disney.  I see that they just added Universal Studios and would love to go there but we have never been there.  I think I will do better with Disney since I have been there and know my way around it is such a short time for what there is to see.   I think we will go with the Magic Kingdom  there is so much there to see and several roller costers.

We are cruising in 14 days, with Cape Canaveral being our first stop.  I want to do Magic Kingdom, as I have never been there.  But does the 160.00 bucks they charge cover anything besides general admission and the bus ride?  Do you have to pay extra for the rides?  Is there another way besides Carnival to get to Disney from the ship?  How much would it cost?  A day pass to Magic Kingdom is somewhere around 80 bucks I guess, according to the website.  Any comments or assistance would be appreciated....

    Re: Which Disney Park?

That right there is why we're NOT doing disney... 160 for an 85 dollar admission means you're paying 75 bucks for the bus... The rides are included in the price of admission... it was back in the 70's or so when they changed from the ticket method.  Magic Kingdom is great, but its hard to do it in one day (we didthat earlier this year... flew down a day early for a cruise out of port canaveral and even having from open to close plus the extra 4th of july hours, it felt like we were running on E but yet had SO much left to do).  Food is wicked expensive... a "cheap" meal of chicken fingers and a soda is like, 14 bucks. If you want to sit down and chill out somewhere, expect to pay triple that and more.  I love Disney, but doing it through Carnival is probably not the best way... taking a trip to Orlando and having the time to chill out, not be rushed, looking at your watch, closeby, even staying in the parks, is probably the better way to go.

Dang that is expensive. We always go a few days before and after. I like universal studios so we do that, and then if it is during the wine and cheese festival we visit epcot and then Disney and a water park. It is hard to see in one day unless you  plan everything very carefully online. Check out some of the blogs like mouse ears to .know what rides are a must  first

    Re: Which Disney Park?

I am with Smitty and I would blow off Disney for Universal...their rides are so much better.  I also think since the parks are smaller it is easy to do them in one day where ANY Disney park you would be rushing to see everything.  Keep in mind it is almost an hour to and from and if you should be back at the ship about an our before it sails so even if you are there from 7-7, you really don't have ALL day.  Have fun with whatever you decide.

I love Disney and have been many times, and grab every chance I get to go.  However I think the price that Carnival charges for the excursion is really outrageous.  They show it as a 10 hour excursion, with 1 hour travel time each way.  That means that you really only get 8 hours in the park.  Most parks won't open until 9am (unless it's an "Extra Magic Hours" day) so you lose another hour there.

If you really want to do it, you want to get the most bang for you buck.  I'd suggest getting online to the Walt Disney World site and researching each of the parks, look at the park hours, and learn about the different attractions in each park.  Also use Google and search on phrases like "Best time to visit Disney World to read about the average crowds at each of the parks on the day you would be going.  (ie: if you go the weeks around Martin Luther King day, the crowds will be larger than if you go a different week due to people using the holdiay long weekend.)

You should also check with Carnival to find out where the bus is going to drop you off at.  Will they take you right to the park entrance?  Or will they drop you at the transportation center?  If you get dropped off/picked up at the Transportation Center - you will have to account for the travel time from there to the park.  If you do Magic Kingdom or Epcot, you can go by monorail (which is a cool ride), but if you want to go to Animal Kingdom or the Studio, it will be by bus.

Personally, if I had to pick just one park I'd say go for the true Disney magic and go to Magic Kingdom.  There is plenty to do that adults really enjoy (Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, etc.)  Epcot is interesting and has some "must do's" such as Test Track, Mission: Space, and the CAN'T MISS Soarin'.  If you go to Epcot, go immediately to Soarin and get a Fast Pass - then immediately get in line for it if the line is anything less than 1 hour.  (you will want to do it twice)

    Re: Which Disney Park?

I have an annual pass for disneyland in anaheim and holidays are nuts as are weekends. The website gives you the opportunity to plan your day with a pdf map of the parks. We just went this weekend and friday was great until the evening when it was super crowded. then saturday morning was nice, first thing and then it gets crowded early.

Its too bad disney doesn't have the fun pass that could be purchased like they have at universal studios.
