    teen goes overboard

just heard on the news at noon (baton rouge) a teen on a senior trip from hammond, la has gone missing at sea. his folks were with the group. waiting to hear the full story and i should not ASSUME but most kids think life is forever no matter what they do. my daughter and family is going on fantasy in about 5 weeks. my son in laws sister is freaked out worrying about her 4yr old. like we all have said only THREE REASONS PEOPLE GO OVER.  (1) drunk  (2) suicide  (3) murder, well let me add #4 being stupid

you don't just fall over for the heck of it.

sure hope they find this poor kid, no way to end a life.

I am from Hammond and cruising on this ship in 5 weeks. Gonna be tough. Great family-young man played soccer and ran cross country. Please pray that his mother can bring him home. Community praying for a miracle

I know when you get off the ship they scan your sail and sign card.... so is it safe to assume they know he did not just miss the ship at a port?  I guess in looking for a miracle I would hope that could be it.  I am praying for a miracle!

    Re: teen goes overboard

I don't think this ship had made it's first port in key west yet.

We are in baton rouge and first heard about this on our noon news. this is a sad day for our cruising familys in la.

We just got back off the freedom and are working on next may for our next cruise .

There is no way to go overboard acccidently that we saw.

rails are high and they are sturdy. sorry for the family and friends.

my daughter was on local swim team with him when they were younger. Watched his mother train for triatholon in Hawaii. Very athletic family. So incredibly sad. He was in great shape.Just saw him running around campus last week. Keep family and his senior classmates in your prayers. Thanks

My son is on that same cruise also with about 25 other classmates.  He called today once they arrived in Key West to let us know he was okay and that the young man was overboard.  My concern is how easy is it for someone to just fall overboard.  Are his parent on the ship with him?  It is good to know that he was on a swim team maybe they will find him. My prayers are with his family, I pray all our children come back home safe.  This has scarred me to death.  Please keep the posting up if anyone hears something else.

    Re: teen goes overboard

There is a report that the boy had broken up with his girl friend just before the cruise and that he may have had words with his parents, also, just before going overboard.  Friends who were with him say that he deliberately jumped from the 10th deck.  This was a suicide, not an accident.   What a tragedy for his family.  No 18-year-old should have to feel that his life is over when it has hardly begun.  My prayers and thoughts are with his grieving parents, and the rest of his family and friends.

    Re: teen goes overboard

I agree.  What could be so terrible in your young life that you would feel the need to end it?  My husband and I just got off the Fantasy on Saturday...I have felt so sick since the news broke yesterday.  A man I work with who is from Hammond knows the family...his sons played soccer with the missing boy.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family.  No parent should have to experience such tragedy on what should have been a happy occasion.  So sad!

I just got off this ship on Saturday also.  To all who asks, it's not easy to just fall off the ship.  It's virtually impossible.  I am saddened to hear this.  But when something like this happens, it's usually done by their own decision.

You can not accidently fall off a cruise ship.  I haven't heard anything in the news about this.  My prayers are definately with the family.  Anytime a child is lost it's a terrible tragedy.  Unfortately when anyone who hasn't cruised hears something like this it's always the cruise ship's fault.  As soon as I go back to work next week I'll have a dozen people tell me how dangerous it is and can't believe I cruise.  They just don't get it.  I don't see how the cruise companies could make the ships any safer.  We've taken our granddaughter since she was 13 months old and not once have I felt she was in an unsafe situation.  People make unsafe conditions not the ships.

Sad indeed. Praying for the family. Praying that the other kids will tell the truth about what they know and the media will report the truth.  Will be leaving on the Fantansy with my 18 year old son on Saturday.

    I agree, this is horrible!!!!

I go with my 18 yr old on June 27 for her Sr. trip, and gonna keep her close by, but also I been on many cruises, and you cannot just fall off, you have to work on it, to get yourself off the ship, which also is horrible for someone wanting to do that to themselves and there family.

Looks like he had so much going for him to.

I will keep his family and friends in my prayers!!!
