Jan. 10, 2010 Roll Call for the Beautiful Carnival Splendor

    WELCOME!!!

So who is going to be joining me on the Carnival Splendor January 10, 2010.  I am so excited to be going there and seeing the magnificent whales and their babies before they head back north and then I can watch them go by where I live.  Is there anyone else interested about going on one of the whale excursions.

I will be joining you on Jan. 10 along with my husband and 3 other couples from Mo and Iowa.  I am looking forward to seeing the whales, also.  Which port do you think will be the best for looking for a whale excursion?  This is our first time doing a Mexican Riveria cruise.  What other excursions are you thinking about doing and where?  I've been doing some research, but figure I have plenty of time.  I'm glad I found your post, we can count down the days together. 229 days!!

    WOOO HOOO

We are going on this cruise also. We're a family of 4 from Kansas City. Two children ages 5 and 7. I would die to see the Camp Carnival Capers. I have a copy of the Splendor Capers for this cruise if anyone wants them.

My husband and I are going on this cruise as well. We have been on two prior Carnival cruises and we are really looking forward to this one.

Have you seen the rollcalls on www.Cruisecritic.com? Here is a link to the rollcall area for the Splendor http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=473

If you have not signed up there yet, you might like to, it is easy, free, and addictive. See you there.

We got so much information for our last cruise from that site it was a huge help to us.

Are you going to go a day early or fly in the day of the cruise? We are going a day early and staying at the Marriot Courtyard in Long Beach.

Re: Jan. 10, 2010 Roll Call for the Beautiful Carnival Splendor

Welcome!  We will be flying in the day before.  We haven't decided on the hotel yet.  I had done some research on the Queen Mary.  I definitely want to go see her if we don't stay there.  Is this Marriott close to the cruise terminal?  Are you flying into Long Beach or Los Angeles?  I would like to fly into Long Beach, but there is only about 4 airlines that fly in there, so it really limits your flight choices.  I read Cruise Critic all the time.  It does have some very good information on it.  I thought I signed in on the rollcall for our cruise, but I looked here awhile back and didn't see my post.  When I clicked on your address above, it comes up and says that there has been no new posts for over 30 days.  We need to get on there and get it back to the top!!                                            To the family that signed in just above yours, I would like to see the Capers. Do you have them posted somewhere? Or how could I look at them?  We live north of Kansas City about 120 miles, almost on the Iowa border.  Maybe we will run into you somewhere during the cruise!

Re: Jan. 10, 2010 Roll Call for the Beautiful Carnival Splendor

There was a post today on the Cruise critic Splendor roll call for 1/10/10 so don't know what the problem is. Is this where you checked? http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=953766

We are flying into LAX and taking the supershuttle into Long Beach to the hotel. I have forgotten exactly where the hotel is but it is in downtown Long Beach so it can't be too far. Their website says it is a "short ride" to the cruise dock.

There are several of us that cruised together last Sept that are going on this cruise for a mini reunion. One couple started it and the thing just kept rolling, picking up more and more.

We are glad to have more folks join the roll call.

Hi, You are going to be about 4 or five miles from the Queen Mary.  It is not really that far by cab.  If you are going to do a group, check into shuttle service because I only went 2 1/2 miles and by cab ran me almost $11.00.

Re: Jan. 10, 2010 Roll Call for the Beautiful Carnival Splendor

Let's get this Roll Call "rolling" again!   It's only 140 days to go!!!!  I have got a room booked on the Queen Mary for Saturday night.  I've decided what exursions we'll do at each port, but I don't have them all booked yet.  In PV we are hoping to get the Sierra Madre tour booked just as soon as we get on board.  In Mz. I have booked with Mazaltan Frank to do a city tour & Stone Island.  Then in Cabo we will do a whale watching tour, hopefully on the Ecocat.  I am still waiting on a good deal for airfare.  I guess we have plenty of time to do that.  What is everyone else been up to?  I can't believe the kids are back to school and summer is pretty much over!

Re: Jan. 10, 2010 Roll Call for the Beautiful Carnival Splendor

I'm glad someone else has joined us!  I can't believe it's only two months away already!  We plan to do a whale watching tour in Cabo.  I would really like to go on the Ecocat, but they aren't even accepting reservations for their whale watching tours until December.  So, I'm holding out for them.  We have a tour booked with Mazatlan Frank in Mazatlan.  He's doing a tour of the city for us, then over to Stone Island.  I have heard so many good reviews on him from other boards, I am really looking forward to that.  In PV, some of our group is wanting to zipline also.  I hope to book the Sierra Madre 4x4 Expedition excursion once we get onboard the ship.  It says online that it is only available on board.  I sure hope the weather is nice.  Have you ever been to the Mexican Riveria in Jan?  I keep reading that the first sea day is pretty chilly in Jan.  I have gotten most everything taken care of except the shuttle from the airport over to Long Beach to our hotel.  I guess there's plenty of time, but I just like knowing everything is ready to go!!! Where are you all from?

Re: Jan. 10, 2010 Roll Call for the Beautiful Carnival Splendor

We are all from Arizona. Temperatures in PV run in the mid to high 70's day and low to mid 60's at night. I would bring a light jacket or sweater, some of the inside decks do get chilly as well as the outside decks especially at night. We are booking the zip line tour in PV with Johann and Sandra, we found them on line and they do tours in all 3 ports. They are generally 25% to 50 % less than what the cruise ship offers and from reading up on them are just as good if not better tours then what the ship has to offer. This will be our 3rd cruise to the Mexican Riveria out of Long Beach all on different Carnival ships. Can't wait, ready to cruise.

Re: Jan. 10, 2010 Roll Call for the Beautiful Carnival Splendor

Thanks for the weather information.  What about Cabo and Mazatlan, are they about the same temps?  I guess 70's will sure beat the cold, cold weather we experience in Missouri in January!  I know we won't want to come home!   What part of AZ are you from?  I lived in Mesa in the late 60's. early 70's.  My parents moved there for health reasons, but only lasted five years.  I guess they got homesick and we moved back to Missouri.  I was a sophomore in high school and sure didn't want to move, I loved it there.  I was so upset!  But, I still keep in contact with a girl friend from there.  I often wonder how different my life would have been if they would have stayed in AZ?

The weather in Mazatlan and Cabo is about the same. We are all from Mesa, It sure has changed and grown since you left. My wife and I are from San Diego, we moved out to Arizona in 1999. Ca. just got too expensive.

cathygo, they are now taking bookings for EcoCat in Cabo.  It will cost you $31.95 but you only have to use a credit card to reserve it, they will not charge your card unless you do not show up.  They would prefer that we pay on the day we sail.

Please come and visit our group on Cruise Critic, here is the link
