    REVIEW OF FASCINATION 5-16-09

Family of four went on this trip and were very excited, we had a great day of sun the next day on the boat, having fun and then it all began....  For those of you that say that you can't tell you are on water, I have a new saying we couldn't tell we were out of the water.  The ship rocked so bad, sick waiters, store closes, entertainment canceled, people actually "getting sick" in dining rooms, having to sit on the stairs to keep from falling, elevator doors not closing.  My husband went to the guest services desk and was behind a woman that was in line.  She went up to the desk and then a man walked up and the "guest person" told her she would have to step aside because she had a platinum customer she had to wait on first.  The staff was nice the only person that didn't get sick was my five year old and she loved camp carnival and didn't want to come home, as for the rest of us, I would have swam home if I had a water proof map.  I am a travel agent and it will be hard for my WORST CRUISE experiences to stay in the closet, I would never wish that ride on anybody. I was not the only person that felt this way, we met many guest who said the same thing "NEVER AGAIN",  as we were leaving one other guest said it better "A three day vacation in Gatlinburg would put this one to shame"  As we heard that everybody said a big AMEN!!! This was our first cruise but after this I can pretty much say it was our LAST,  I will be glad to sell anybody Disney world but carnival will be a lot to swallow!!

    Hi Amy,

I am Rick my wife is Jeannie, I am so sorry you had such a rough trip! Was thhe weather very windy or something? We were on the Fascination 2 Years ago in June, back when it sailed out of Miami, to Cozumel and Key West! I did wake up 1 night and saw the phone cord swaying so I knew we were rocking but I guess it rocked me ack to sleep! It was a really smooth trip for us! I really did not realize we were on the water until I looked and saw the beautiful sights! Maybe it was the difference in locations! I hope not though, because my wife and I are booked October 31, out of Jacksonville Fla. Halloween cruise! We took a cruise last year on the Destiny and I was actualy a little Ill from the motion! But Never really noticed it swaying or anything! I will tell you this dont give up on cruising because of one bad cruise! If the crew was getting sick, it must have been something unusual! Think about it and book another 1! The weather out on the southeast coast has been pretty bad for a week or more afraid you may have gotten into some of that! Lots of wind and rain, somedays just wind! Really am sorry your cruise was rough, as much as I love cruising, I hate to see anyone say they will not do it again! But there are a few folks who feel that way! Hope you change your mind! But Take care whatever your choice is! Nice to know your 5 Year Old had a Blast!

How is this Carnival's fault?  Carnival cannot control the weather or the seas.  If they could, they would rule the world!  Please reconsider as CCL is a great cruise line, and has MANY very satifsfied customers, despite the weather. . . .

Happy Cruising! - Is there any other kind?

Now I am scared to death.  I have this fear of myself or one of my family members getting sea sick.  Was their a storm?  What did the Captain say?  Did you take any medicine?

    Re: REVIEW OF FASCINATION 5-16-09

We have never been on the Fascination but have been on many others.  A few of our cruises were this rough but I guess that doesn't bother me.  My son-in-law and husband got seasick but it sure didn't keep them from cruising again.  The rougher it is the better I sleep.  We don't drink but I am sure we could have done a better job walking if we had a few, it might have equalized us.  There are many cruises you never knew you were on the water, it was so smooth.  Others, not so smooth.  I guess I always thought you might feel it since you are on a moving vessel.  As far as the platinum customer, there are usually VIP lines for those who have either a cat 11 or 12 or have been on 10 or more cruises.  That is one of the perks for earning that right.  There are also lines for the rest of the cruisers.  Our first cruise was on Grandeur of the Sea and we were in the tailend of a hurricane.  It was so rough, no one was allowed on the outside decks.  It didn't keep our family from cruising again, the only thing we changed was our cruiseline.  We switched over to Carnival and ready for our 14th next Saturday.   Maybe cruises just aren't for you.  The seas get rough and hurricanes come to all the cruiselines.  We have also been to Disney World 9 or 10 times, we like it also.  My oldest son took the Fascination out of Jacksonville this past January and had the time of his life.

Try your best not to be scared.  Don't let one person's bad experience/review upset you.  We had great times on both cruises on this ship.   We cruised on the Fascination twice.  Last September we had an itineray change from Cozumel to Nassau.  But, last Sept. the hurricanes were coming one after another.  The 1st day we had some rougher waters but not extreme.  I took the less drowsy dramamine and that really helped me.  I'm glad I did but my husband did not need to take anything.  The rest of the cruise the waters were pretty calm and we had warm sunny weather too.  We also cruised on this ship in October on our 1st cruise.  I love this ship.  The staff and crew is excellent.  We had no problems at all.  We did have a Cat. 11 Balcony Suite on both cruises.  Those are great and now am hooked on them and could not stay in anything but a Cat. 11 suite.  No one can control the weather either.  We were lucky on both cruises to have awesome weather which really helps.  I did check the weather.com website for the Ports of Call we were headed to about 2 weeks prior to leaving and the last week I think I checked it daily but was also tracking all the hurricanes too.  I am looking forward to when we can take our 3rd cruise now.

I hope you have a great cruise and an awesome time.  Drinks  Paradise

Don't be scared, we were in a tropical depression or something like that, just didn't like not knowing what was going on and all the staff, waiters, photo people, cashiers, were telling us they had been on the boat for six months and it was never that bad, so more than likely it was a case of bad luck!  We took bodine, poped it like candy, the arm bracelets worked just don't sleep with them on, your hands tend to swell.  I think if we were more informed about how bad the storm was and that the captain had made an announcement that it would be rough but that we were in no danger would have put some comfort in to the situation, but seeing the un easiness on the staffs face just made us all uncomfortable.  So be excited and don't let it ruin your trip before it begins, Its just cruising isn't for me and my family but I know many that return time again, hopefully you will be one of those.

Re: REVIEW OF FASCINATION 5-16-09 - GREAT CRUISE

I am very sorry for your bad experience onboard the Fascination 5/16/09 - 5/21/09.  Yes the boat ride was rough at times, but this in no way is the fault of Carnival.   Try an Alaskan Cruise out of Seattle if you want a rough ride.   My husband and I spent a wonderful 5 days relaxing and enjoying the nice friendly staff that served our meals and kept our room tidy.  And yes we were in an inside room on Empress, not a Suite.   As for those that were sick.  NO one at our dinner table of 10 ever got sick, nor the guests that I had breakfast and lunch with.  In fact one gentleman commented that he enjoyed the rocking so much that he might not be able to sleep when he returned home.  I did witness several young adults who ran in to the bathroom vomiting, but was this due only to the rough waters?  Maybe.  I saw one sick crew member.  And when I asked him if he was OK, he replied to me, yes, that he had had too much Crowne Royal.   As for the guest services person taking care of a platinum customer, I don't see any wrong doing there.  There is a sign at the desk that clearly states this is the line for platinum guest.

For anyone planning a cruise, there may be some rough water; go get a prescription for the patch from your doctor.   This was my sixth cruise, and I would hope on ship this afternoon, if I could.  I highly recommend cruising.

Sorry aobut your experience. My husband won't cruise because of the "motion of the ocean", and he really does get sick.  But on the other hand my mom and I always went in Sept because it's during hurricaine season and you really can get some rocking and rolling and we liked that.

I think it really depends on what you like. And by the way I like Gatlinburg too, we are going next month to Severville.

I was,t on your cruise but I have found that if you take ginger root pills about two every evening starting the night before the cruise. It helps with motion sickness. We were on a cruise 2 years ago. and it was so rough (just missed a Hurricane that about 1/2 of the passenages were sick ), In talking to those who were not, most of them either had the patch or were taking the ginger pills. After see in them in a Mythbuster show I started to use them and I swear by them.
