ok, the story is, that if you use carnival sponsered tours you are garanteed to get back to the boat. for instance, when we were in St. John, the ship was scheduled to leave at 4:00 PM (they won't wait either) and 5 after we saw ppl coming up the walkway from a bus. ship sponsered, they waited. so that is one advantage of booking thru carnival and yes it can be a little more expensive, but we like the guarantee on that. and in st.john didnt see any other tours to be had unless you went thru carnival, tho we did do the bay of fundy boat tour which i booked directly thru them www.jetboatrides.com depending on your fathers ability there is a steepish flight of stairs to get down to the boat and then back up when the tour is over. in halifax we booked both the tour of halifax an the whale watch thru carnival
