    Hearing Aids

I'm hearing impaired and where behind-the-ear hearing aids in both ears.  I want to spend a lot of time by the pool and also in the pool.  I also wear contacts.  Obviously I can't wear the hearing aids in the pool so will have to leave them by my lounge chair at the pool.  These are very expensive & less than a year old.  I don't want them to walk off.  If I don't wear them at the pool then I won't be able to carry on a conversation with anyone especially if it's really noisy.

     Any suggestions for me??

I do have a suggestion but you will have to rely on someone to finish up with specific information.

You can buy a "water safe" to wear around your neck. It is water proof and some are specifically for diving so they are MORE than water proof.

I do not know the real name of this "necklace" or where to find one. However the good posters here on Carnival Connections will help you.

Look around the internet for those gadgets. You will be able to use your equipment and then secure them when you are in the pool and hot tub!       Cool

I think Walmart, Target and several sports stores (Academy here in SA) sell these things.  My intention is to get one and test it.  Figure I'll fill it with paper towels and dunk it to see how well it works....my distrust will probably put the hearing aid in a ziplock then put the ziplock in the water proof wallet or canister.  (Yes I wear and aid too).  Often I've gone on water rides at SeaWorld etc and I've been successful with a zip lock but there I'm only getting splashed.  I figure with a combination of the two that ought to do the trick.

If you're near a Boy Scout store they sell these wallets/water proof bags too.

Clearly, I'm a bit late to this conversation, but maybe this will be useful to someone else.  If you live near a larger city (it doesn't have to be all THAT large), there is probably a dive shop that stocks water wallets for divers.  I don't know that I've ever seen these outside of a dive shop (except in the ship's gift shop).  They're not terribly expensive and would be very worth having for something as necessary as your hearing aids.

    Hearing Aids

I wear a hearing aid except when my supervisor, husband, or certain office mates are talking. However, the wind whistling through is going to be rough. I have actually found one of those cheap hearing amplification things they sell work pretty good and I don't have to worry about losing one (i've already lost one). Of course I don't know how bad your hearing is but this works okay for me.

Because I want to get a waterproof wallet I am going to head to a dive shop right off the bridge next week and will post the amount for you.

The GF and I use these:

    Waterproof case

You'll notice the old-style Sail and Sign card near the front edge. The one I bought is large enough to hold a few credit cards, a tube of Chap-Stick, a set of car keys with an alarm remote, and some cash. We use them snorkeling but would never let them go to SCUBA depths. I put a little bit of silicone grease around the rubber gasket to help the waterproofing (Vaseline would work too). In the times we've used them we've ended up with slightly damp contents, but that includes actually submerging the to depths up up to 10 or 15 feet while snorkeling.

You should be able to find these in the sporting goods section of the typical chain stores. There was a posting on the forums about 4 months ago where someone had found them for about $2 apiece if you bought 10 at a time.

    matt,

I'll dry out those 20's for you. If time allows this week (keep forgetting i have a contractor coming) I still want to look at the scuba wallet. Wouldn't that be a bit more manageable or at least smaller for just hearing aids?

Seriously, if all you're worried about is protecting them from splashes at the pool, Ziploc freezer bags should do the trick. The toys they make for snorkelers and divers to play with are either heavy vinyl bags with a ziploc-style closure or hard plastic cases with a rubber seal (see above).

    Matt

I rarely wear mine (might have on saturday though until I gage how loud you would talk Smile) and have no plans to take them on the cruise. I usually only need it for meetings with the CO or if I want to hear what someone is saying in the next cubicle. I just thought the poster would want to see some other options since his are expensive.

However, we would like to not worry about the identification. Tony lost our room key, dl, and room charge slip when it slipped out of his pocket and was sucked into one of the pool drains in Vegas, and thats another really long story. I thought if he had a waterproof wallet it would be easier for him to not lose things in the water.  Do you not think this would be worth it?

I'm a loud mouth. Big Smile  Part of that stems from self-induced hearing damage.

However, we would like to not worry about the identification. ... Do you not think this would be worth it?

What I think is that you need to look at what's available and judge for yourself. Since diving is a hobby I have spent my bajillion dollars on lots of toys and found something that works for me (and of course have a large pile of stuff that doesn't). I like the case that I have because it works well while in and around but not far under the water and it holds things a wallet can't. The downsides are that it is a little large and stands out as a touristy widget and of course isn't waterproof to 150 feet. Another upside is it looks more like it might be a cigarette case than a keeper of valuables so other than a smoker looking for a fix it may be somewhat more secure than a wallet. The wallets that you describe make me think of the surfers' wallets from the 70's and 80's (I'm not as young as I might appear).
