We were there in Feb. did a tour with bernardstours.com  He is a great person and we spent all day with him. He took us shopping. to the beach for a couple hours. to another beach to watch the planes come in. Shopping again. Took us site seeing of the Island.  Pretty much whatever you want. Go to his website and email him about what you want . You won't be disapppointed. Very reasonable. Our tour included unlimited drinks in the van as we went. Water, soda, rum punch, beer.

My husband and I just got back and the best thing that we did on our cruise was the America's Cup Yacht racing on St. Maarten.  It was wonderful and well worth the cost.  We will do it again.

I agree with Penny...the America's cup racing was AWESOME and we would do it again if we were to be back in St. Maarten!  Well worth the cost.

This sounds like a perfect excursion for my teenage children and 72 year old father. My father can not walk for long periods of time but I know he will enjoy the beaches and the island tour. Any chance you also went to St Kitts and St Lucia?? I need advice on how to see the Pitons and still get to go to the beach without having to have my dad walk too much. Thanks Trish

My friend and I were there in Feb too and all I want to say is, be very careful of the vendors at the beach trying to sell you necklaces etc. At first we kept saying no but this one girl could not take no for an answer. She flung her handful of necklaces on my chair and said it didn't cost to look at them. Well, we each found two that we really liked and they were very reasonably priced so we bought them. Then the girl brought up hair braiding. She wanted to do that, I could have cared less but we agreed to go along with this. We told her our price was not to go over $20.00. When she was done, everyone from out tour was on the bus, including the tour director and she came back with prices at $60.00 for my friend and $90.00 for me. We tried to argue it out but her friends were with her and we were alone. We ended up having to pay. If I had had time, I would have told her to take them out but time was not on our side. So, my comment here is this, if you are going to the beach at St. Maarten DO NOT HAVE YOUR HAIR BRAIDED. They will rip you off

Whether you choose to walk the charming shopping area of Front Street (and grab a beer for a buck from a street vendor), relax on the Great Bay beach with its many restaurants and bars, or sail with the America's Cup boats (also called the 12 Metre Race with Dennis Conner's Stars and Stripes), don't miss a taxi ride to the Sunset Bar & Grill at the base of the airport runway. It sounds crazy, but the planes take off and land within a few feet from the bar. Take a camera. You simply won't believe it until you see it.

If you are into the Star War movies,  we discovered, quite by accident, that the Yoda Man had a store/museum in Philipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side. After we entered the gallery, Nick Maley (the Yoda Man) greeted us and gave us a mini-tour of the gallery, describing the various Star Wars memorabilia that was on display. Nick was one of the original designers of Yoda and other characters from Star Wars. There were quite a few framed pieces with storyboard illustrations from Stars Wars, along with autographed posters from Star Wars and other movies. It was quite interesting and Nick was really friendly, talking about his work and answering quesions. We were there in Nov of 2007, and the shop is on the second floor, stairs only.
