Well, Im sorry that you had a bad time....  Sounds like like for your family, you would have benefit from a disney cruise.... I think carnival is versatile with their guests, ranging from kids to adults..

jsut two weeks later the Legend had hundreds of children booked.  they all seemed to be enjoying the adventures planned out for them.

 

 

 

Thanks for reminding me to head to Radio Shack for walkie talkies before June 13. We're taking our 6 & 7 (almost) yo grandsons on the Pride. If they don't like Camp Carnival (although I'm sure they will), they can hang out with us when not swimming with the dolphins, etc. As for Disney, no one knows how to wring every $ you have out of you like the Mouse does. That's why our annual Thanksgiving in Orlando trip now leans more towards Universal/IOA and SeaWorld with only a day or two at WDW. The grands like the other parks as well as or better than WDW, and two days is enough to do all the fun rides at all 4 Disney parks.

That's cool no kids. Kids should be left at home. That's why I wouldn't cruise on Disney. But this is also my last year of Carnival too. I have been a loyal customer for 8 years to Carnival but now they won't honor their contract to take the 6/5 cruise from Long  Beach to Mexico, instead we are going to Catalina. So does any one know of another cruise line that hates Kids and that honors their ticket sales? 

You could have brought a friend with her and still saved over Disney prices.

I have been carnival cruising  with my 15 year old daughter every year starting when she was 6 ,never has she complained or been unhappy in fact cant wait for February 2010!

Sounds like a spoiled cant entertain her self kind of kid!

Sorry your children did not like it. Ours had a wonderful time. I will admit, some days they like Camp Carnival better than others, but that to me is just children. They are not going to like everything, all of the time. All in all, our two absolutely loved Carnival and have been begging us to go back since. Thus we are leaving June 29th. Can't wait.

To each their own. I have found Disney to be way over priced comparitively, and very unwilling to show support to our troops through Military discounts in the way that Carnival does (tried several times for a military discount on Disney and was told "keep checking back"). For these reasons and the bang for your buck, I choose Carnival. Again to each his own. Sorry the experience was not what you experienced on other lines.

I'm really distressed to hear this.  Very, very distressed.

I'm taking my wife, my son and my new daughter-in-law on a cruise in just under two weeks.  We'll probably have a miserable time now that I know it's not for families.

We were guests on the Carnival Imagination that sailed on 2/23 out of Miami. We had a good time, food was good and the staff was very accommodating and friendly... with one VERY BIG exception, the kids club "Camp Carnival". Our girls are 9 and 5 and on the 2nd day our asked to go to the open play session so they could check the kids club out. When we dropped them off and registered them around 10:00 am they were the only 2 kids there. We were a little surprised but our kids were excited to try it and with four counselors we figured they would get lots of attention. We returned to pick them up an hour and a half later to have them race back to us close to tears and tell us they were never going back. They informed us that the counselors wouldn't let them paint or color or play on the computers. Since they were the only two they had them watch a movie the entire time. Since Carnival does not provide pagers as other cruises do our kids could not page us to come back and pick them up. The cruise was very nice but the Lido deck activities are clearly adult focused and since it was two windy most of the time for the water slide or putt putt that was our only option to swim and play with our kids amongst the adult activities. The evening shows and activities were all adult focused (PG-17 rated). In the past we have taken a Disney Cruise and the kids club was 110% better. The activities had a much wider range - luau party nights, cookie baking and treasure hunts to name a few. Our kids were younger and BEGGED us to go to the kids club. Much of the time my husband and I would hang out and watch the festivities (we were made to feel very welcome) and the counselors interacted with the kids constantly. While there were adult focused activities and shows on board there were equal amounts of family shows and activities. As I said, the cruise was nice and the staff very friendly but I would not recommend Carnival for a family trip. Go Disney.

You dont go to a chinese restaurant and order a Pizza, right? what I am trying to tell you with this analogy is that if you are focused on childrens activities, you cant compare Disney w/ Carnival. Of course Disney is going to have more things for kids to do! DUH!! but to make a blunt statement saying that Carnival Cruise Line is not for families is a bit exaggerated. Of course, if you want to kill two birds with one stone, you go with Carnival, which have activities for both children and adults, but if you want to pay a fortune and give your kids creme de la creme in terms of children's activities, then by all means, go with Disney!

Perhaps you shouldn't bring an only child on a cruise.....and if you do choose a better time like everyone else is saying.

Disney is extremely pricey so I think I'll go there on land instead....lol....might still end up paying $1,500 in tickets, food and souvenirs....

Carnival may not be for every family, but to say it's not for families is plain ridiculous! My family loves Carnival. My husband and I both worked when our kids were growing up, and always saw our vacations as time to be together "away from it all".

My boys were 11 and 15 on their first cruise and they had a ball, with us! Neither of them ever even asked about the Camp. We played games on the Lido deck (I have found memories of much Sponge Bob Uno!), explored the ship, and we were able to enjoy the activities and excursions together. I certainly realize it may not go that way for everyone, I guess we were lucky. 

Our youngest is now almost 19, and is disappointed he can't join us when we sail in September. My 22 year old is excited for us, and we were reminiscing about the cruises we took as a family. Obviously, they have great memories of their Carnival Cruises!
