Lynyrd Skynyrd

How far from the port and closest hotel is the FAMOUS FREEBIRD where Skynyrd got their start? We are headed down there in Oct,a few days before our cruise,and want to see the place.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wink If I leave here tomorrow......................

The FreeBird Cafe is at Jacksonville Beach. It's not exactly where the band got there start but it's owned by one of the late band members wives. There is not a lot going on there during the day but in the evening the place gets packed for live music. It's worth a trip to the area if you have the time. Jax beach and the area is nice and you can always stop by the Cafe for a beer or a souvenir It's maybe 15 minutes from the port, not far.

The Pastime is in the West Side of Jax. It was formerly named the Jug and is the bar that inspired "Gimme Three Steps" this has been confirmed via The Jax Times-Union.

Just for info purposes-the remaining band members live in Middleburg, Fl which is out in the country. Close to Jacksonville though.

Did you know that there is SimpleMan cruise? The one this year was on Carnival, forget the ship, etc., but there is a website called www.simplemancruise.com for all the info.

Thanks lizz,I DID see that,but we have always cruised in the fall,but just MAYBE we will make one of those cruises.It would be great to cruise with Skynyrd. Cool
