Was wondering if anyone has done the jet boat ride excursion and if it was worth the money?  It sounds like alot of fun.

my friend and i are doing the jet boat ride in st.johns, june 15, 2009 cruise, its $40.00 canadian dollars for each tour and you will get wet on the jetboat tour :) and if you book thru the excursion itself they are a 5 minute cab ride from the ship. they have the "dry" touring cruise which is a walk from the ship. looks like a blast, they even have a short video of it on their website

Are you doing it through Carnival or on your own?  I don't see it being offered in the Carnival shore excursions.

we're doing it on our own for the jet boat. i think carnival only has the dry tour and i think through the same company. but you can call them or use their reservation form through their website. they will ask for your credit card for the guarantee and as long as you cancel 48 hr before arrival, you wont be charged. its in canadian dollars which right now is $1.17 CDN to $1.00 US . so you'll save a little bit.

in halifax, we're doing the whale watch, but will book thru carnival on that one as its not much more than one place i found.

Just got back from St. John and went on the jet boat. I took my two boys, while the wife watched.  You can buy tickets just north of the dock, in a little shack that also has bike rentals, and other boat tours.  It is a short taxi cab ride to the location, which cost us (4) $10.00 going and $12.00 back.  They take any money, and will charge you based on the currency you used.  It was about $39.00 each.  It was a blast. 

I highly recommend you bring a change of clothes with you if it is cold like it was for us, or at least wear something that will dry fast.  Do not wear jeans!!!!! (Someone has to make the mistake) However, the taxi will take you back to the ship, and it is easy on and easy off the ship to get changed.

There is plenty of time to do this, and all you need is about 1 1/2 hours.  They will call the taxi for you, however, it seems that the taxi's were roaming around the ship, and the "tourist" areas. 

As far as making a reservation, we had absolutly no problem with this being booked, but it might have just been that it was 60 degrees, and I think the water was 40....

i had posted the website to this tour. they do suggest making a reservation and it is with a 48 hour cancel policy. the other person did not make a reservation and i believe it is because as he said, water still cold, but also because it is the begining of the season. we did the "dry" tour and then the wet tour, we took our shoes off before going on the ride. you will definately get soaked! and hopefully dont get in a panic mode! lmao. when the first wall of water went over me, i was like, ok, then the 2nd, then i was like, ok, i need air here! lol but it was a BLAST! it is 40 canadian dollars. and if you use your credit card, when your bank processes it, it will be at the current exchange rate plus their small fee. like i purchased a tshirt saying i survived (lol) and it was 22, but only cost me 19 and change when i looked at my statement today. we just got off this cruise today! i want to go back on the ship lol. as to taxi, we picked it up at the market place on the corner up from the ship, it cost us 8.00 each way, i gave him 10. and yes, they will call the taxi for the ride back for you. the weather was beautiful on wed when we were there. when we went to halifax, we did the whale watch,and yep, we saw a whale, minke whales are popular there and the season has started there. we also did the halfiax tour.

We're traveling on the 8/15/09 cruise and it sounds like we'll be doing the same excursions.  We're planning to do the jetboat in St. Johns and the Whale Watch in Halifax as well.  Should be fun.  Hope the kids like the cruise - 1st time for them.

it was fun. you will get wet! either bring a change of clothes or go without lol. they give you a rainsuit to wear.. like it really helps! not.. but it was a blast. i can't remember if i said it in my post, but on the jet boat ride, when he makes the quick stop and the wall of water goes over you, start taking quick breats, usually it was 3 waves that went over us lol. i got a little panicky at first felling not being able to get air, reminded me of when i lived in cali and got dunk by waves. my friend kept saying, do it again, do it again, haha, finally i told her after a couple times to shut up "laughing" hope you have a great time, we did on the whole adventure of cruiseing. st johns and halifax were nice ports :)
